Omni-Channel: Bringing Walgreens to Digital and Digital to Walgreens

Learn how Walgreens is successfully pursuing an Omni-Channel strategy based upon online and mobile products paired with APIs enabling developers to create third-party mobile applications, all of which is integrated with 8,000 physical store locations. The Walgreens approach is to thinks in terms of consumer touch points (not channels), to be wherever the consumer seeks to access Walgreens products and services.

Speaker Bios:
Joe Rago is a Senior Mobile Product Manager at Walgreens, where he heads up the recently launched Walgreens Developer Program. Before his foray into the world of APIs, Joe was a Product Manager for, where he oversaw their web and mobile properties. Joe is a resident of his native Chicago, but is a frequent visitor to both of America’s coasts.

Mark Shaffer is a Strategy Development, Business Planning and Analytics Manager with over 15 years of experience leading innovation, driving change, and creating value throughout the organization. He has been with Walgreens for 11 years in various strategic roles, currently within their consumer mobile division. He grew up in rural Minnesota, and as such is a huge Minnesota sports fan. In his free time he enjoys traveling, reading, and golfing.

We learned of several ingenious ways that Walgreens is combining its web/mobile products and properties with externally-available APIs and partnerships. All amplifying the power of Walgreen's 8,000 retail locations and erasing the boundaries between the physical and virtual. To say that attendees derived ideas for how similar tactics could be used to create new revenue opportunities for their companies (especially in retail) would be an understatement. Many companies cannot even conceive of what Walgreens has pioneered! Thanks Joe and Mark!
