Devils Lake -Climbing weekend #2, for Oct 24 -

Updated Oct.19th: Check the meetup 'Files' link on left for a suggested route selection for our trip on the 24th. Reminder: IF you need anything to borrow for this trip. check back here or in messages and let us know. I'm heading up for sure on Friday AM to set up 'basecamp' , ready to welcome our team as they arrive that evening. Late arrivals will find 2-3 person extra tents up and ready, to jump into right away.
IF we all want to have some kind of group dinner effort on Sat. night, I guess some input should show up soon. Otherwise we are all independently on our own for meals. Reminder: there is NO cookout at the south shore planneed for this trip. That was the previous weekend's event. I'll have the extra tents if needed, 6 ropes and lots of set up gear for us. Friday night we can chat about our goals and pick an area to go set up early Sat. morning. ( see suggested list on file) Watch here or message board for updates. Feedback appreciated.
Meanwhile, I wonder how everyone did this past weekend at the big cookout DL trip? Mark

This trip started about the same as the last RRG trip; rainy and cold. I went up to Green Valley on Friday night but did not hook up with Mark. I spent Friday night in Madison to avoid another cold and wet night in a tent. I met up with Mark at 9:00 Saturday morning. I was prepared to give it a go, but Mark had had enough with almost no one showing up and a full night of rain on the bluffs. I went back to Madison. Later that morning the weather cleared up. We could probably have gotten some good climbing in. It is always tough to estimate how the weather will shape up.

No-shows and last minute cancellations came in AFTER I left for Green Valley. I would have gladly cancelled in this awful weather. The interest was there late Thursday night, and the trip was Bob's posted event, so not my call to cancel.

Got to GV campground by noon. Set up an area for our group with a tarp, firewood load and 2 large tents in the awful cold rain. Checked out Hillbilly Hollow climbing area out behind the Rt 39/51 roadside rest area up north of here. Cooold night; missed Dan's late arrival. Dried out and warmed up by late morning, then headed up to West Bluff by 1PM to solo self belay a route, as usual. Yup, should have gone to the Red instead!

Few more drop outs today. I'm sticking with this outing folks, even if it's my last effort to do so here. Hope we get some climbers and a few climbs in on Sat. at least. See ya'.

Looks like we might sneak in a cold but mostly dry weekend at last weather report. Any questions, fire away tomorrow AM before I'm packed and gone late in the day.

Wow! We have a good 'maybe' list too so far. Please be sure to let us know if you are bringing a rope for this trip. I'm good for up to 10, but if all our 'maybe's show up, a few more rope leaders would be much appreciated.
