General Motors App Framework Demo & Reception

UPDATE: There will be a parking lot available to us for the event. It's free! The lot is located off West 35th Street on South Racine Ave

GM is hosting a reception for the Chicago HTML5 Meetup at the Skyline Loft in Bridgeport as part of their Chicago Auto Show activities. There will be food and beverages for us and a real live car to check out.

GM announced a new flexible application framework at the Consumer Electronics Show that will allow drivers to add apps and features to their vehicles after the initial purchase, allowing vehicle infotainment systems to improve over time.

The framework enables new set of vehicle application programming interfaces, or APIs, for developers, allowing them to interact with and build upon the infotainment systems in GM vehicles.

GM will offer developers a software development kit, or SDK, through an online portal at http://developer.gm.com/. This will allow developers to work with GM in a secure and controlled manner to design, test and deliver the most relevant, customizable and seamlessly integrated automotive apps.

Matt, thanks again for a great event. I found GM API very interesting. Btw, it only took me a little over 1hr to get downtown yesterday from Northbrook, so people that chickened out b/c of weather missed out. Those beef sliders were delicious :)

Aw man. Too bad about the traffic and weather situation. We had a really interesting evening. We got to see an Alpha of the hardware, meet the engineers and product managers leading up the project. They've got a ways to go yet. This is definitely an emerging platform, but there is a ton of potential here. They are think about doing a hackathon at SXSW. If they do, I'm in. The prize at CES was a car. :)

Not sure if I'll be on time (weather permitting), but if I'm there and folks need a ride back to the near north (Lakeview/LP area) I'm happy to spot a ride.

What is parking like in the area?

Also, if you are taking CTA, It is probably best to take the Orange Line to Ashland and then the Ashland bus South to 35th. Or the Red Line to Sox-35th and the 35th Street bus west.

Should be interesting! I also haven't been down south in a while, so it's nice that an event's being held there.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
