Knitting for a Good Cause

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • I have a friend from college who is working at St. Anthony's shelter in the Temderloin in San Francisco. They are collecting hand knit scarves to hand out to the homeless on Christmas Day. I am going to be sending a box this year and want to get as many scarves as I can reasonably send to her. If you would like to participate, send me a message or go to the website for more information: http://www.stanthonys...

I am also planning to go to the Knitting Meetup at Panera Bread on 11/9

Cassie, thanks for letting me know about these two organizations! I will have to take a look and see if I can get some scarves made and share the wealth.

It is true that San Francisco does not get as cold as it does here in Chicago. However, while we are getting snow, they are getting rain and it gets down into the 30s at night in the winter. So, it can still get pretty difficult for people living on the streets.

If you know of a place in Chicago that would like to get a donation of homemade scarves, I would be happy to contact them and see if I can make a donation here and send some scarves to my friend's charity in San Francisco.

These are some really great ideas. If we all pitch in, we could probably do something for SF and here.

Hi, I really like this idea! My only question is, doesn't it make more sense to do it here and pair up with a soup kitchen or something? I just googled SF weather: "Winter temperatures in San Francisco are quite temperate, with highs between 55F and 60F and lows in the 45F to 50F range (Null, 1978). http://ggweather.com/sf/narrative.html

It seems like we should spend our time knitting for someone who might actually need to use it. Maybe socks make more sense for SF?
