We would like to be the most inclusive, people friendly, "non-clicky" Lesbian group in Chicago. We want to facilitate lesbians building community activities and bonds around common interests and/or life similarities.
We would like to have many sub-groups that freely use this as a forum to meet others with similar needs and interests and building warm supportive community bonds. All different ages and interests are welcome. As long as the activity follows the guidelines of being legal and ethical - we welcome your participation, and/or input and leadership.
Some other Chicago lesbian meetups define membership by other criteria – we want to keep it open. Some other meetups have a strong organizer agenda overtly or covertly restricting what activities are allowed, supported, or developed in their forums. This impedes certain types of community bonds from forming in a meetup. We'll promote these bonds to form in our lesbian community. Many lesbian businesses & hang-outs have disappeared over the years, so it's more important now to compensate for this with online community building. Many community interests here will not be the group leaders’ interests - and that is welcome - invited. As long as all activity is ethical and legal, we’re here to hold space for lesbians to grow together in those commonalities – whatever they are.
Please join us in building a sincere, genuine community where commonality is enhanced and we develop mutual support among the sub-groups that is enduring and meaningful. It's time our community meetup reaches past just giving us options for attending random events. In lieu of having multiple physical spaces in the community dedicated to lesbians connecting, as there were many years ago - this is an online community space we can call "home".
Please note: All members should be lesbians. "LESBIAN" MEANS; born of the female gender physically with no sex re-assignment surgery - not currently married to, dating or sexually involved with men - AND, (NOT OR !!!!!) self - defining as a lesbian. All events should be lesbian-only unless it is SPECIFIED CLEARLY in the invite or updated in the invite or main post that the event is to include others as well, such as bi-sexual, transgender, gay or straight friends, etc. Inclusion of the larger community is more than welcome as long as it is clearly stated upfront!!! This is NOT meant to discriminate but to RESPECTFULLY INFORM members of events involving the larger community. The lesbian community is not the same as the LGBT community or the whole human community, it is a subset. Since this is a lesbian group, it should be the choice of the members whether or not they want to attend meetups that are not lesbian only. Events that limit participation to those with common interests are welcome, as well as events that keep participation quite open - as long as, for each event, the legal and ethical guidelines are followed and members are informed clearly about specifically who is invited to attend. Please see further information in the Pages section if you are bothered by the lesbian only membership policy (2 articles, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the link at the bottom to toggle to the other article when one is open).
