Da Rematch: MIGUEL COTTO vs. ANTONIO MARGARITO

This location is shown only to members

!NO COVER!

THIS SATURDAY......Miguel Cotto vs. Antonio Margarito, Part II is a Boxing Super Welterweight title fight for the WBA Super World Super Welterweight championship.  Both teams reached an agreement on the contract weight for their rematch: 153 pounds.....to take place in New York.  When Cotto and Margarito met in 2008, they waged their memorable welterweight title bout at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Margarito came on strong in the fight's second half to stop the then undefeated Cotto in the 11th round of a bloody battle.  The win was later tainted when Margarito was caught trying to enter the ring in his next fight, against Shane Mosley, wearing loaded hand wraps. Many believe he got away with wearing illegal gloves in the fight with Cotto.

New York State Athletic Commission (NYSAC) initially denied Margarito a boxing license on October 31, 2011. The rationale for the denial was not due the cheating allegations, but instead due to the damage to Margarito's eye in the Manny Pacquiao fight. An appeal was filed and a hearing took place to where several leading eye doctors testified that Margarito should be allowed to fight. Promoter Bob Arum revealed that Cotto will be paid $5 million plus a larger percentage of the pay-per-view sales for fighting Margarito, where Cotto is 6-0 and is anticipated to draw a heavy crowd of supporters from New York's huge Puerto Rican population. Margarito, said Arum, will be paid $2.5 million plus a smaller pay-per-view percentage than Cotto.

NOTES, Part 1: Okay Fan'atics, the boxing fights are on, including the UFC(Michael Bisping vs. MTV's Bully Beatdown Jason "Mayhem" Miller). I'll make sure that they have one of the tv's on the UFC fights. I may not be able to make it, however. Get there on time to get seating; this is a cool/fun but very cozy bar. They know we are coming; the bartenders Maggie and Agnes, and the manager Louie, and owner, Scott are way cool. They welcome you to bring your own food if ya want. Long pours!

NOTES, Park 2: Gentlemen, make sure all the ladies have seating. As fan'atic Gareth J. stated, the undercard of the boxing card will be explosive. Brandon Rios is regarded by many to be one of the best young boxing talents, and may supplant Pacquiao and Mayweather one day. Enjoy the fights!

Following that, bam bam rios failed to make weight Friday and forfeited his belt but the fight is still going on and will be a hell of a scrap. Also, if you can, the Wolak / Rodriguez rematch is bound to be fun, first one was excellent, as Wolak's bizarre eye injury can attest http://www.google.com/search?hl=en

This is a small bar, and like many places, if you're just coming for the main event, you probably won't get in.

Other bars probably having the fights are Lucky Strikes, Allstars, Club Transit, O'tooles, Joes, Wicker Well.... There may be covers at these spots.

Even though we love the bar for tonight, I would have picked a bigger venue if I knew we'd get this much interest. So bare with us for tonight. I'll be fun. I won't get to meet some of ya, but check out some of our upcoming meetups. :-) LET'S GET READY TO RUMBLE!!!!!
