When a talking monkey appears in the airlock of the space station Ephemera, the crew learns they may be the last defense of planet Earth. Bryce Wissel's zany comedy features a tortured love triangle, a mariachi-singing robot, and the threat of interstellar combat with an unknowable enemy. Ephemera first appeared in Polarity Ensemble Theatre's 2008 Dionysos Cup Festival of New Plays and was further developed through workshop readings with the company. As directed by Laura Sturm and designed by lewis lain, it will be an immersive entertainment experience from the moment the audience enters the lobby. "Laura is casting actors to play androids who will run the box office and house manage, and lewis is planning an art installation in the lounge" said Polarity Artistic Director Richard Engling. "All three designers intend to extend the visual and sonic environment throughout the theatre. It's the kind of "full experience" theatre that we first attempted with Darren Callahan's The White Airplane. This time we're going even farther."
The cast includes Kim Boler, Jonas Grey, Charley Jordan, Kaelan Strouse and Bob Wilson. The production is directed by ensemble member Laura Sturm, with production design by lewis lain, lighting design by Julie Giampaolo, sound design by Elliot Taggart, production management by Lee Strausberg and stage management by Nicole Smith.
