The Drake Equation: Little Green Men, Exoplanets and Scientific Progress

The "Science Sundays" series invites Scott Thompson to present a talk on the history of the Drake Equation, which seeks to answer the question "How many advanced, communicating civilizations are in our galaxy?"

In the early 1960s Frank Drake devised an equation that would, in principle, allow us to determine the number of advanced and communicating civilizations in the galaxy.

Fifity years later, we have made great progress in understanding the terms that go into this simple equation.

This talk will survey topics related to the Drake Equation, and will tie together such diverse ongoing scientific explorations as the search for extra-solar planets, biology, sociology, plate tectonics, abiogenesis and many more.

If you are interested in these areas, and in what science has to say about aliens, we'd love to see you in the Founder's Room on Sunday Morning March 3rd.
