ASTRONOMY DAY

Explore the wonders of the universe... see the moon, planets, stars, and galaxies.

On Saturday, April 20th. - RAIN or SHINE - we will host an informative and entertaining celebration of astronomy beginning at 5:30 pm.

If the skies are clear, telescopes will be available for viewing a variety of celestial objects.

NSA members will be on hand to answer any questions and conduct general tours of the night sky.

But don’t stay away even if it’s cloudy.  Inside the school will be a wide variety of shows, demonstrations, and exhibits.

FREE!

Chicago Science Field Trips member, Annette LoBue, kindly forwarded me a notice about Astronomy Day at Harper College.  Annette says:
“I’ve gone in the past and it is amazing and FREE! They have all kind of discussion topics in different rooms.  When it gets dark around 8:30pm everyone goes to the observatory which is amazing...they don't have it pointed to the moon like other places, they actually point it at cool nebulae etc.. Then usually there are 15 people with scopes outside the observatory just waiting for someone to walk up and check out what they are pointed to...like Saturn etc.  Like I said, I highly recommend it if it is a clear night!!! I will be volunteering 8:30pm by the observatory.. so if you come say Hi. PS: I just joined the club so I have not taken Astronomy yet.”  Annette LoBue

Hi Bob, you bumped into twp others at the meetup and didn't know it. I'm quite certain you pointed the space station out to Eduardo and me. That was really cool. Thanks

I didn't see any one else from this group either, or at least didn't notice them.

I went to several of the presentations, then out to the observatory to see Jupiter and Saturn. We also got to see the ISS briefly, and a large meteor streak by.

Great event! I wish the talks weren't simultaneous so I had the chance to enjoy them all. The outdoor telescopes at the end of the program were my favorite part. Thanks for organizing this meetup! 5 stars :)

This was a great event even though I did not run into anyone from the meetup. Hope everyone enjoyed!

    Hi Science Enthusiast,
I’m planning to attend Astronomy Day from about 6 to 8:30 pm. Most people will want to take advantage of the events that appeal the most to them and will travel their own course. It would be nice if our paths crossed though. If you would like to hook-up, you can call my cell at[masked]-9712. I will wear a Meetup badge. Enjoy the event tonight!

To all planning to drive out from the city or those who live EAST of the DesPlaines River: BEWARE of FLOODING on that river & in Central DesPlaines itself: consider taking I-90 (the Jane Addams Expy) there Sat PM or another route where this is NOT an issue!
    Good luck with THIS!

Is this through one of the local clubs? I assume we can bring our own telescope as well.

Looks like Saturday as of now at least, is the only clear day. I did this adventure three years ago and thought it was cool to see the cats eye nubula in the observatory among things.. There was like twenty people with scopes out on the lawn that year and they were dying for someone to walk up so they can talk to you about what they had their scope pointed to. A very passionate group that wanted everyone else to share their excitement!!

HERE is the lowdown PARK AT XYZ BUILDING...the biggest coolest building to park at there.. later you can easily walk to the observatory or just repark...

Harper College is hosting Astronomy Day again this year. There will be demonstrations in Z-130 and talks at 6, 7 and 8 PM. If the sky is clear, the Henize Observatory will be open along with telescopes brought by the Northwest Suburban Astronomers.

Join us, rain or, well dark, for an evening of astronomy!
