International Beach Cleanup-Greenwood Beach Evanston

Chicago Scuba Meetup will join the Illinois Council of Skin and Scuba Divers to sponsor our International Beach Cleanup on September 21st at Greenwood Beach in Evanston, (1401 Sheridan Rd.).  We will start at 10:00 and lunch will be provided.  Although the beach will be officially closed, restrooms will be open and the Evanston Park Service will provide us with trash bags to help with the cleanup.   We will do shore cleanup, but there will also be diving, since this beach features the George Morley shipwreck, a wooden steamer which sank in about 20 feet of water 300 feet from shore (long swim) in 1897.  All those diving will need to bring a "C" card, and we will need a dive flag for every pair of divers.

Jack Donoval of Frogg Pond Dive Shop is offering to rent up to 20 50 cu. foot dive tanks for $3. These tanks would provide plenty of air to dive this wreck.  Please contact Jack or Dean Nolan at this website if you are interested.

World wide, 10 million pounds of trash was collected in the 2012 event.  The Illinois Council of Skin and Scuba Divers and the CSM will be doing our part this year.

Good weather and a good time. Helped clean up the beach and park and ate too much. But no diving, the waves were a little to much for that.

What kind of equipment would you need to bring on your own for this dive?

I plan to drive the tanks to the beach for you to rent and return on-site, so no need to pick up at the shop. But I will need a c-card and something to hold as deposit, such as a D.L. or credit card. Bring exact $$ please.
