Let's go diving in the world's largest underground lake March 16-17, 2013. Join CSM for a trip to the Bonne Terre Mines, a billion gallon underground lake – the world’s largest freshwater dive resort! Bonne Terre is a huge flooded mine complex that is spring fed, resulting in year round water temperatures of 60-65 degrees and 100 ft of visibility.
BTM is a truly unique dive destination. Jacques Cousteau enjoyed diving BTM so much he explored the trails for a full week. Under the water lies a former mining complex, complete with locomotives, buildings, stairs, elevator shaft, ore carts, tools, huge columns and much more!
There are 24 different trails within the cavern with each set of four trails progressing in difficulty. Once you progress through all 24 trails, you can dive to the city where the miners lived. all dives are trails dives lead by highly qualified Divemaster/safety divers. Diving BTM is a truly outstanding experience for all level of divers.
Depart Friday, March 15. Carpooling to be arranged at pre-trip meeting.
Lodging Friday & Saturday night and hospitality room each day
4 total dives, 3 dives Saturday, 1 dive Sunday (additional Sunday dive $70).
Minimum certification: Open Water
$395 for divers, $385 for Sustaining CSM members. CSM 2013 dues ($20) must be paid by Pre-Trip meeting for discount.
$100 for non divers, Single room additional $75.
Nonrefundable deposit of $280 due ASAP to guarantee your dives with BTM. Final payment $115/$105 due February 15, 2013. Additional dive spots might be available on a first come, first serve basis. Trip includes diving, lodging, tanks & air fills (no personal tanks allowed)
Breakfast Sat./Sunday, snacks Friday/ Sat. night and between dives, water, soft drinks and beer/wine plus a hot lunch Saturday. Food is not available at BTM.
BTM has full gear rentals on site if needed check their web site for prices.
There will be a pre-trip meeting 5pm Sunday, March 10, at the T.G.I.F restaurant on Harlem Ave in Oak Park. Carpools and room mates determined at this meeting.
