What do you hope to get out of Chicago Freelancer's Happy Hours?

I am always blown away by the exciting stuff folks are working on in Chicago. I'm still learning my trade, and I run into new technologies, ideas, tools and ways of doing things every time I meet someone new. So hopefully I meet like-minded people to share ideas with. Or perhaps become enlightened by new career avenues I've never even considered. Would love the right collaboration. Or in the very least, to share some beers and a few laughs.

What is your specialty that allows you to freelance?

How long have you been freelancing for?

Off and on for the past fifteen years, although never for more than 3 years with one tech team at a time, with a big 5-year gap from[masked] when I was saving the world as a teacher in CPS and a mapmaker for a non-profit. the past year and a half, I have been getting back to speed with CMS/Joomla, PHP/MySQL/LAMP, HTML, CSS, JS/Jquery. I really dig front-end work, and have recently been employing Less/Bootstrap framework for a couple more responsive designs.

Favorite way to get work, and what's your favorite poison (bvg)?

Been using Eclipse lately for development. Always enjoy hearing what others are using. Using Reaper for my third CD/recording. ArcGIS is my mapmaking tool of choice to date, however I am getting involved with OpenStreetMap as well. Poison? Beer. But really anything, short of gasoline... or that shandy monstrosity.

My friends call me Trakan. I am a Web Developer, GIS/map geek, and recording/performing indie songwriter with a passion for music production, graphic design, social marketing... and all the cool stuff an indie artist needs in the ol' survival kit
