Thematic Games

Every month, we select a theme or a mechanic and try to play a few games with that theme.

New players welcome! Many times we're running a first play-through of a game. We're happy to teach or learn.

Some games that we've played in recent months - Eclipse, Sid Meier's Civilization, Lords of Waterdeep, Ascension, Thunderstone Advance & the Castle Ravenloft Board Game

If you are interested in playing something, suggest it in the comments!

Im voting for the 17th. That way it is not too long before the april meetup that I am going thru withdrawals!

Have dominant species but never played. Still need to figure out the complicated rules! Mansions is on my list as well as a bunch of DBG. Sentinels,of the Multiverse, Star Trek DBG, Eminent Domain, Legendary...you get the idea! Even Quarriors! I was curious about Mansions with the new expansion just released. Hopefully it is not a difficult game to learn. Whatever works for the group, or a bunch of short game to get more to the table. I'm game!

17th it is. Rafael, we've played Urban Sprawl by the same designer, but I haven't played Dominant Species yet. Want to try that at some point.

Next month, the date conflicts with the auction. Any preference whether we meet on the 3rd or 17th?

Friendly group of gamers. Thanks. This is a group where everyone usually RSVP's and they attempt to pre-select a game - RSVP and join the conversation.

Glad you could join us Chris. What was the card game you brought? I'd like to look out for it in May

Thanks for coming, Chris. The card game we played was called Clubs from Northstar games.

Never mind, it isn't going to work. Don't expect me. Enjoy your gaming!

Will try to make this meetup Sunday.

    • Tom W

That would be great if you can make it! I know you have your group that meets at games plus on thursdays, maybe we can fill that void on sunday too!

Look forward to an afternoon of gaming. I am just the "face" on meetup for the Thursday meetup - that group has been meeting for many more than years than I have been attending.

The group is expanding, any thoughts on what games to bring or ones people want to try?

    February 9

    • Rafael Rosa

I'm a big fan of core worlds especially with galactic orders. Could be long with 5.

    • Joshua Rosenblum

The only expansion I don't have for Small World is Realms. Why don't you bring Cosmic, just because it looks like we might have a big group. Runebound I think would be too long with 5+. Mansions I was thinking about - maybe next month.

I got rid of Cosmic Encounter a while ago, never seemed enjoyable. Did not like the player interaction.hopefully it got better. Will probably try to bring Manhattan Project, and some other short games for fillers.

    • Rafael Rosa

Game is the same so if you're not a fan no problem

      February 6

    • Joshua Rosenblum

Cosmic Encounter is on my list to try at some point. Maybe some other time.

      February 7

  • Joshua Rosenblum

Will bring Seasons, Cave Troll, Belfort & Blood Bowl Team Manager.

  • Rafael Rosa

After talking to Josh, I'll bring Cosmic Encounter (FFG). I've got one expansion so it will handle 6. I've never tried it with that many but It should play in 2 hours - probably less.

  • Rafael Rosa

Seasons works for me. I've played once. I wouldn't mind getting Cosmic Encounter (new) or Core Worlds + Galactic Orders to the table someday soon. If you're interested in oldies I'm also looking to play Kremlin and Illuminati in the future. But again, Seasons is good.

I think we are going to keep it to the tenth. I'm open to moving the date to a different day of the month on a permanent basis. I don't have anything specific I'd like to get to the table. I have Seasons, and a couple of other Thematic euro style games I wouldn't mind getting to the table, but I'm open for anything.

I'm in. Are we still doing this on the 10th? I know Don was talking about switching. I can do any Sunday this month
