Noobaholics Anonymous

Hi, my name is David, and I'm a noob. Well, for some games that is. Even with all the games I've played in my life (I even owned a game store up in Detroit once upon a time!), I still haven't played everything out there despite my best efforts. Learning new games can be daunting at times in a huge group, but we aim to create an environment that is conducive to learning here so that we have more awesome people to play our favorite awesome games with.

At this meetup, there will be one person to demo the game and all other game slots will be filled with a preference to those that have never played. The person demo'ing the game will be there to answer your questions and help you have fun instead of just trying to stomp you into the ground mercilessly so that they can laugh maniacally over your noob corpse. Geez, who does that sort of thing anyways? Jerks, that's who!

Discussion of strategy will be encouraged. The idea isn't to tell you how to play but to mold you into a player that can go forth and laugh maniacally over experienced people's corpses! (Much more satisfying. Trust me.)

Hope to see you there!!

**NOTE: Please note in the comments section below if you would like to teach a game or if you have a request for a specific game to be taught. We will try our best to play matchmaker.

Is there a minimum age limit for players? Just curious...

I always hesitate to put a numerical age limit on these things. If the player can participate fully and have the attention span to play, they are welcome. Of course, we are also in a bar and we never ask people to moderate their behavior due to younger players, so also take that into account.

Got to learn Terra Mystica and even almost won. Great game, definitely not for beginners. But great high-level strategy game with very cool asymmetry between player races.

Sure! Any requests from anyone? I was thinking Lords of Waterdeep, for one, and maybe a handful of others.

Is Mad River driver-friendly (parking available/not terrible?)

I've been told street parking there is passable.

I can always find metered parking, and often find free parking fairly close.

I'm interested in way too many games: Pathfinder/D&D, Netrunner (which I can bring) or any LCG, Fiasco, Battlestar Galactica...
