Thematic Games

Every month, we select a theme or a mechanic and try to play a few games with that theme.

New players welcome! Many times we're running a first play-through of a game. We're happy to teach or learn.

Please  try to RSVP. We try to plan games ahead of time, and knowing the attendance in advance helps us choose the right games for the right number of players.

Some games that we've played in recent months - Thunderstone Advance, Core Worlds, Marvel Legendary, Seasons, Merchant of Venus, Descent 2nd Edition

If you are interested in playing something, suggest it in the comments!

Don't worry, we still accused you of being a Cylon!

I'm glad we have a lot of interest this month. I don't generally like to do this, but I'm limiting attendance, so we don't wind up with an awkward number of players. If enough people express additional interest that it makes sense to have a second table, I'll open it back up.

I have the Daybreak expansion for Battlestar Galactica if there's any interest. However, note that I have ONLY the exp.... I'll need to combine that with someone's base set + other exps, and then fish out all of the stuff afterwards.

Hey everybody. I've played BSG a few times, including the expansions. Even though I'd like to try the Daybreak expansion, I don't have a problem playing with just the base game. However, I'd also like to submit for the group's approval a (simple) variant that affects how Cylon Attack cards come out of the Crisis Deck. Using the standard Crisis Deck rules, it's possible the Cylon Attack cards can either come one after the other or be buried at the bottom of the deck, making the game too easy for one side or the other. This variant makes Cylon Attacks more regular, while admittedly making them a bit predictable too; I think it's worth considering, though.

Thinking about what we might have time for after BSG that wouldn't take too long and fitting the flavor, I'll be bringing Cosmic Encounter.

avalon/resistance seems like the obvious choice to me. Neither of which I have though.

I've played resistance a few times, don't own it, but that might feel a little too close to BSG. Cosmic Encounter is about bluffing, betrayal and abusing game mechanics to win.

Calling it now, Don is a Cylon. :)

I laughed too. But honestly I am a terrible betrayer in betrayal games. I get found out more often than not.

We'll just send you to the Brig right away. We know how confrontational you can be!

I think I will make it to this one. Just me though. I loved bsg the first time I played it. I played it with just the base set. It was really fun accusing people of being a cylon. I liked it less the 2nd time I played it with expansions. I sorta think a game like "resistance" or "avalon" have the fun accusatory parts of BSG. Just something to look into. I'll play BSG for sure though.

Right now on my list is Battlestar Galactica, A Touch of Evil, Fortune and Glory, Arkham Horror, Pathfinder Adventure Card Game(if I can figure out the rules by then), Lords of waterdeep w/Expansions. I'm sure there are many others!! Any thoughts are welcome.
