Traitorous Monday

"We have to distrust each other. It is our only defense against betrayal."Tennessee Williams

Join us on the last Monday of every month for TRAITOROUS MONDAY, the gathering of gamers who revel in deception, take pleasure in deceit and celebrate all things stratagem. Yes, games where there are double agents, spies, traitors and backstabbing rogues are the focus of TRAITOROUS MONDAY and you're invited to join us in the charade!

Games include Ultimate Werewolf, Possession, The Resistance, Battlestar Galactica, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Are You The Traitor, Shadows Over Camelot and more! Members are invited to bring their own treasonous games as well, provided you can demonstrate how to play.

We meet at T.G.I. Friday's in Streeterville, just east of Michigan Ave. on Erie St. Bring your intuition, your keen powers of observation and most importantly your best poker face and get straight up traitorous with us!

Not sure I can make it this week, Matt. I was up north at Garycon this past weekend, running Werewolf. Saturday we played until 4:45 in the morning -- the last 2 games getting down to a 3 or 4 person standoff -- really intense!

Stephen: I know it's a bit last minute but we're doing Werewolf this coming Thursday in the city, check it out at http://www.meetup.com/chicagogames/events/52514532/

Hope you can make it out!

This looks like a very cool event. It's a hike for me, as I'm in NW suburbs, but I just may make the next one. I'm a huge fan of Werewolf, and want to try Battlestar. I can also show you my custom Werewolf cards -- the Strumpet, the Saint, the Soldier, the Transient, and a few more....

As events of deception, lust, and gaming go, I struggle to recall one more on-point. People *really* seemed invested in flipping the tables on each other, figuratively, and being sneaky fraks, literally. All told, I look forward to betraying another day.

Fantastic turnout and everyone seemed to have a great time. Next Meetup, more games.

You, sir, are a traitorous bastard.

    Bravo.

Not sure, but I'm guessing not. Roslin as a Cylon is awesome. All of those horrible Crisis Cards... It was a huge part of the reason why we weren't jumping as quickly. I think I added at least 8-10 turns to the game. To say nothing of the other little devious maneuvers throughout. :)

Wow, Zoltan from turn 1???? Was Steve aware of his hidden appliance brother? I guess this is where I eat crow and admit that all wild speculation to the contrary Matt Wolff was *not* the traitor.. gg, guys, gg

Learned a few new games from a bunch of friendly people. Can't wait to develop my understanding of Battlestar Galactica.

BSG recap for those who missed it:

Steve was the cylon, as we all knew, but Matt was not. Rather, it was Zoltan (as President) who was a cylon from the beginning. (The purple card was actually a mistaken misplay from Matt that he didn't own up to until after the game).

Due to a rules misunderstanding, we ended the game and decided the cylons (Steve and Zoltan) were the victors by a technicality. Though the humans were only two turns away from winning...

Let's do BSG again next time!

While we want to show T.G.I. Friday's our appreciation for them graciously hosting us, you are under no obligation to buy anything and I'm sure there will be enough food/drink being ordered that they'll feel very appreciated. :)

Be sure you RSVP and we'll see you next Monday!

I'm totally sold. :) I need to make sure my schedule is open and that I can acquire some cash (being unemployed = super aggravating). Then again, it's not like I have to actually purchase anything at TGIFs, right? I'm fine with taking the el.

Then I suggest you RSVP, bring it and show us how treacherous you can be, Cliff!

A new addition to the collection of treacherous games is Fantasy Flight Games "Rex". Based in their Twilight Imperium setting and using the old rules from the "Dune" board game, "Rex" is all about duplicity, breaking alliances, and bribes. All in the name of conquering taking the Imperial Seat and consequently the Empire itself!

Monica - If you attend you'll be privileged to play in the company of some of the most accommodating, patient and experienced teachers of games in the city. I can personally guarantee you that you'll have zero problems walking in knowing nothing about any of the games and leave having had a fantastic time. RSVP, you won't regret it! :)

How much of a damper would a newb be?

    March 20, 2012

  • Matt W.

Haha, ok. Well it's like a few blocks off the Red Line and at $20 parking is expensive but not outrageous. But I understand if you don't want to come on account of being afraid we'll know you're the traitor. I get it.

Oh just for purely selfish reasons. We can drive to dice dojo and park for free. Sought it on the original flyer and hoped to come.

I will add to the traitorous trials with Ca$h&Guns, Cuthroat Caverns, BANG, Hex*Hex XL, and Pandemic: Over the Brink!

    March 10, 2012

  • Matt W.

hmm, any particular reason why? they host a board gaming meetup now and do a fantastic job of it...
