CHM On Stage at TAPAS 7232 Madison!

Come on out for a great CHM get together at Tapas 7232, the absolute coolest new food and music club in Chicagoland!

Tapas 7232 features an attractive and very affordable food and drink menu, (I highly recommend the Caprese Empanada- whoa!) a relaxed atmosphere and an inviting live stage- um, what more could a harp player ask for?

Our Chicago Harmonica Meetup format is friendly, fun and musical. Relax from 7-8 PM with fellow CHM friends and then take to the stage if you wish to perform your favorite harmonica song(s), with or without our dedicated guitar accompaniment, your choice.

We embrace all genres and style of harmonica music, including blues, pop, country, classical, traditional, show tunes, jazz and more. Guitar accompaniment provided by our talented, laid-back CHM member Tony French.

This is THE best musical Meetup in Chicagoland- come on out and support your group, hone your jamming skills, make some new friends and for God's sake, bring your harmonicas and that song you've been practicing all month. Hey, Branch out, Billy! Step up to the mic!

So many talented harpists, guitarists and singers! I finally got up to play as the band was starting to pack up. The novice players need encouragement to perform earlier in the evening. It's such a friendly, supportive group. Thanks, everyone.

A delightful evening of music, conversation and tapas. We played, heard and discussed music and equipment in a variety of styles. Members should not be shy and should get up and play. Tony and Greg were ready to accompany any style and any level of ability. This is a safe environment. Greg, I am going to have to figure out how to play Well, you Needn't on the harp. That will take some Monk'n around.

I have 3 harp mics for sale, Green Bullet, Blues Blaster, and modified Blues Blaster. Make a reasonable offer, great for practice or performance. You need your own amp, I suggest Fender Champ.

Are you playing guitar and harp (on a rack) at the same time?

    March 26, 2013

    • Patrick K.

No, I'm accompanying a guitarist/vocalist, I just have the harp part. Me n racks don't get along very well!

I'm just starting work on Neil Young's Heart of Gold from his 1972 album "Harvest". The 1st position G harmonica plays an important emotional role in the song, IMO. Yesterday I worked on my own tablature of the three harp solos in the song, thinking it would help me understand the song better, and it is helping.

James Taylor and Linda Ronstadt did the backing vocals for this 1972 hit. It was Neil Young's best selling song- rising to No. 1 on the US Charts, just enough fame to make Mr. Young uncomfortable and forge a new direction.
