Welcome to the CBG Monthly Windy City Rides!

We will meet at the parking lot on McCormick Blvd. that is SOUTH of Dempster Street. This location has facilities and a couple of picnic tables. The ride will depend on the wind direction. If there is a North wind, we will ride up to Central Avenue and Green Bay Road in Highland Park. If there is a South wind, we will ride down to North Avenue Beach in Chicago. Either roundtrip is about 24 miles.

The ride direction will be announced at the Meetup; it will be based on that morning's 9AM weather report.

Plan on a 12-14 mph pace. We can split into "faster" and "slower" groups if the ride is large enough. Much of either route includes street riding.  There are food places and a bike shop at either halfway point.

The ride will proceed as long as there is no active rain...

Helmets and signed waivers are absolutely necessary.

What to bring with you:

1. A bicycle in good working order. Almost any type of bicycle will do. Remember to properly fill the tires with air. And bring a spare tube.

2. Filled water bottles.

3. An energy bar, or similar.

4. A helmet.

5. A bicycle lock.

6. ID card.

7. Some money for food, etc. if desired.

8. Sun screen.

9. Sun glasses.

Most important, bring enthusiasm!

After this ride, we can proceed to Emma's Bagel Cafe on Gross Point and Skokie Blvd. for lunch. They installed new bike racks at our request!!!

FYI, Emma's is closed for the Holiday. For post-ride food, you are on your own. ;-)

Proposed Chol HaMoed Pesach (Easter Sunday) Route:

North on Channel path to Church. W on Church to Harms Woods. S on FP Trail to Devon. E on Devon to Channel path. S on path to Lawrence. E on Lawrence to LS path. N on LS path to Sheridan. W and N to Granville. W on Granville to Channel path. N on Channel path to Start. Total by guesstimate = 25 to 27 miles.

Gary, I recall you like the headwind out and the tailwind back. So that means if the wind is from the north that morning we'll ride north into it and return on its tail. The reason I'm asking is I'm not interested in doing the lakefront (I'm on it everyday). So your route call early Sunday may determine a change in my RSVP, okay?

Are you riding on the street or on a paved bicycle path?

Gary has a few different routes depending on which way the wind is blowing.... They are all on pavement.... It might be a mix of paved trails and streets.... But it will all be paved....

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
