Won Kow Restaurant
(Usurped by Nina to add details)
I sent out an evite mostly for those that aren't on meetup, but tried to include those whose emails I have as well. Since I added a bunch more details I am just copying and pasting them to here so everyone has more or less the same info, though I will re-word it to make it applicable for meetup instead of evite...
Happy 4047!
Come join the Chicagoland Browncoats and those that love & support us (or at least tolerate our crazy ways!), watch the parade for the Year of the Ox, and chow down on tasty Dim Sum!
The parade starts at 1, so meeting at 11:30 will give us plenty of time to get a good table/s, eat, socialize, and if it's warm enough for those who want to brave the street - to find a good spot for the parade!
Last year it was so freezing cold we only made short little forays onto the street and mostly watched from the windows of the restaurant, which is why we like this venue. The dragons also made an appearance in the restaurant and I'm sure they will again!
The dim sum at Won Kow is not my favorite in Chinatown, but it is good and very reasonably priced, and you can't beat the location! If you aren't familiar - Dim Sum is cheap and goes from very basic to very exotic. Something for everyone! It's like the Chinese version of Tapas.
We need to get a fairly accurate head count for the restaurant in an attempt to get a table/s near the windows, so please RSVP if you are a Yes or Maybe. The total will be from here, from the evite, and from people who RSVP to either Greg or myself personally.
Evite is a little finicky, so I don't know if this link will work, but if you want to be on my evite list & aren't, then I probably don't have your email on there so send it to me!
For those worried about the game (game?what game? Board game? Role playing? Sorry, I digress.)- our festivities will be over long before kick off. Even if you stay to poke around and shop a bit we'll be done by 3-ish.
The 2 rules from the S/F group apply:
1-Have fun
2-Pay your bill & don't forget the tip!
Here is mine:
3-Talk to somebody you haven't met before!
Parking gets crowded in China Town on CNY, though the two big lots are usually okay that early. The train stops about 2 blocks from Won Kow, so try to train-pool if you want!
For those involved in planning the Inara's Shuttle Browncoat Party at Capricon we will be doing a little brainstorming for that as well. Ideas and offers to pitch in are welcome from all! After that some of us are going to hit a few stores for some party supplies. See that meetup for more information and volunteer opportunities(nudge, nudge).

As far as cost goes, I think no more than $15. It might end up being less than that. Dim Sum is surprisingly inexpensive.
While Greg was being so succinct and to the point with Rich's cost question I went on a google bender...

Well, we ended up with the big round table we had last year, plus 3 small tables pushed together by the windows for parade viewing, and a couple of others at another table!
There were approximately 19 people at Won Kow, and a bunch of other friends roaming around Chinatown too that I unfortunately never got to catch up with. :(
finding people was confusing, but it was a really good time with good folks. We ended up staying in Chinatown until night!
