Jazz Community Big Band at FitzGerald's (Jim PZ)

Jazz Community is an 18-piece big band playing the music of Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Thad Jones and more.

The band was established in the mid 1970’s by its late founder and director, trumpet player, Bill May. Originally called the "Norridge-Harwood Heights Community Jazz Band," due to the origins of founder Bill May and many of the original band members, the band later became know as "Jazz Community" and played throughout the Chicagoland area for over 12 years.

Jazz Community played weekly at several restaurants and supper clubs, as well as playing outdoor summer festivals and street fairs, and along the way the band played for several private events and weddings.

With the untimely passing of founder and director Bill May, in the fall of 1991, Jazz Community disbanded. Jazz Community reunited in the fall of 2011, to recognize the twentieth anniversary of Bill’s passing and to honor and celebrate the musical contributions he made to the many lives he touched.

With the successful reunion of Jazz Community in the fall of 2011 the members of the band are back on track, inspired and ready to delight Big Band Fans in the Chicagoland area once again.

Big Band Jazz music is not the same as Dance Band music. Big Band Jazz involves familiar tunes but includes extended solos wherein these talented musicians get to show off a little for the crowd (and for their fellow band members). Intended primarily as a concert - tiny space for dancing. Look for a table with a Meetup sign. Of course RSVPs are appreciated so we know how many jazz fans to expect, but last minute attendees are always welcome.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
