"INTERMEDIATE" COURT IN LOMBARD (NEW VENUE!)

All - we have a NEW LOCATION for volleyball on Tuesdays - Knoll's Park in Lombard.  Click on the 'Knolls Park' link above for directions.

"INTERMEDIATE" COURT IN LOMBARD

This will be something for the players who are 'C' level and low 'B' level

We play from 6pm til we can't see any more.  We have plenty of bug spray and water available.  You are welcome to bring your own beverages.  Alcohol is officially not allowed in the park (so, if you bring it, disguise it and don't let me know about it.)  We collect a humble $2 donation from each person for each night.

What is the "INTERMEDIATE" Court?

This is a grass court net

Depending on how many people sign up, there could be anywhere from 4 to 6 people on each court.  If enough people sign up, we will set up 2 separate 'Intermediate' nets.

Wait List and Extra Net

If the event fills up quickly and we have a significant amount of people on the Wait List, I will add an extra net and Up to 8 more spots.

Other Information

Maintaining Quality of Play

Since we are not qualified to be judges of volleyball talent, you will have to "self police".  In other words, you'll have to politely ask those who don't have the required ability level not to play on that court (or you can tell me and I'll deliver the message.)  This is for safety reasons.  We don't want anyone getting hurt.

If you feel that you cannot keep up with the level of play at this court or it is not competitive enough for you, feel free to move to another court.  This is why will have multiple courts.  No one is here to judge you personally based on your volleyball ability.  This is all for good fun.

You'll also have to "self police" on the rules etc., but I am betting that is par for the course.

If this goes well, I'll make it a repeating event for every Tuesday night during the summer.

After The Games

You are welcome to join the rest of the gang (from all 3 courts) as we go to a local watering hole.   We usually have about 20 people.

Three Strikes Rule

We'll be enforcing a "3 Strikes" Rule for these events for those who RSVP "YES" and then "no show" with no explanation.

* The net is a Park & Sun Net.

At the very least, on the intermediate level, we need to continue to focus on 3 hits before someone gets injured

Agreed, but the only way to do this is to convince your team to do it or to just play with people who you know are committed to "3 hits". Those who don't play that style should play on their own team. Ideally, everyone should play that way, but, realistically, not everyone will do it.

If they won't try to play three hits, they should play on the rec court.

4 on 4 is optimal for intermediate. Everyone gets to play their position without running into one another. It's safer and everyone gets more ball time. Communication and teamwork is key. Remember FUN first everyone!
Bump, Set, Fun three hits everyone :)

It's like the Cubs trying to stress patience at the plate, in order to gain more bases on balls. Barney is a great team player who wants to improve, so he is listening; but Castro is a free swinger, has a huge money long-term contract, is extremely selfish, and doesn't want to change, so he will forever ruin the overall plan. Let's have more Barneys and less Castros at volleyball, people!

Tonight was not a good night. I hope we can get these issues resolved soon as I will not waste $20 in gas to be put in a bad situation again.

Hi All, I opened this up to 20 people. So, the wait list is "in". This way if we're short a couple of people; we'll at least be able to have 4 on 4 on each court. 3's are tough at this level. 5 on 5 is OK if everyone shows up. 4 on 4 is the ideal.

Rotating in w/6 plus is not good so hopefully we don't wind up with 20.
