Free Rain Barrel and Composting Workshop

Now's your chance to learn everything you ever wanted to know about rainwater harvesting. Rain harvesting experts will lead this free workshop on the benefits and how-tos of installing a rain barrel, rain water harvesting system and compost bin. Participants will also receive information about the Chicago Sustainable Backyards program (set to end in January) on how to qualify for a rebate for up to 50% off a purchase of a qualifying rain barrel or compost bin.

Featured at the event will be the Build-A-Barrel system, a two-in-one rain barrel and compost bin made in the USA. Designed to fit into small urban spaces, the cubed shaped “Build-a-Barrel” blends into every type of landscape. The modular design of this system, starting at 50 gallons, allows it to expand up to 200 gallons or more for gardeners that want to be more aggressive with their rainwater harvesting. We'll also discuss the many benefits of including a downspout diverter such as preventing mosquitoes and placing excess rainwater back into the downspout.

Added bonus: The event will be held in the new I Paint My Mind Art Gallery in the Green Exchange, one of the nation's largest sustainable business communities.

This is a really useful and informative session. Something I would very much like to learn. Can we have more of these another day of the week? I wonder if Sunday day time is possible. I have bit of a drive, and am in classes tuesday, thursday evenings and saturday daytime.
