Drop in and give your ideas on trench for cob garden wall - Humboldt Park

The Chicago Natural Building Meetup has been working on a trench for a cob garden wall on a city lot. Before we install the drainage pipe and infill with gravel and sand, it would be fun to have people drop by and give their input. We are digging a dry well since there is no where else for water to go. Learn something or teach us something. This event will be kid friendly - Halloween party, or a fall pumpkin decorating party for the kids throughout the hours of the event. Pizza and cider for everyone! Kids outdoors weather permitting (safely away from the trench - there is a fence dividing the space and a small grassy area for them to be), or we can set up inside if it is too cold for kids to enjoy themselves outside. I put Saturday September 6 as the date, but we could just as easily do Sunday the 7th. 1-4pm. If you have trouble finding call [masked]-6824.

I am demoing a rocket stove on Saturday so will not be able to make it. As I understand it, cob has to have boots. Would papercrete be a good boot material, or is stoine required ?

I am completely new to permaculture and the llike...would it still be ok to come even though I don't have any ideas to give? Will there be other kids there?

We have two children of our own so there will at least be a couple of children! Three more will probably come, and a 6th friend has been invited. My children are 5 and 9. Of course you can come. We want to share what we are doing with those who are interested, and make connections with interested people of all levels of knowledge (or lack thereof!).
