Herbal Workshop Series

This is the next in a series of herbal workshops that the Permaculture Meetup is going to have, in conjunction with the folks at Thai Bodywork. One of our members, Jennifer, is taking a series of weekend workshops with MI herbalist Jim McDonald. To aid in her retention and understanding we will distill each of those two days of knowledge into a two hour workshop.

We won’t be memorizing lists, instead we'll be making tinctures, teas and salves (and other things), experiencing the herbs as a way of understanding them. We are aiming to Monday evenings once per month. To support the Monday evenings, we will also schedule day time meetings where we will go out and gather the herbs, learning what to pick when and how to harvest sustainably. The daytime meetings will be scheduled depending on availability of the group and weather.

The topic for this session is The Immune System and the Lymphatic System.

The study group is free but there may be a materials fee for certain sessions. Please RSVP for each session so we can make sure we have enough materials for everyone.

Throughout the series we will be using both the information that Jennifer gets in the workshop as well as information from a few excellent texts:

The Earthwise Herbal, Old World & New World Plants, by Matthew Wood
The Book of Herbal Wisdom: Using Plants as Medicines, by Matthew Wood
The Practice of Traditional Western Herbalism: Basic Doctrine, Energetics, and Classification, by Matthew Wood
The Herbal Handbook: A User’s Guide to Medical Herbalism, by David Hoffmann
