The Chicago Hip Mama Collective covers the spectrum of personalities, lifestyles, ages (mamas and kids), and neighborhoods. Many members make use of intuitive parenting techniques: extended breastfeeding, cloth diapering, child-led potty training, baby-wearing, and co-sleeping.
We have a full calendar of events and a lively message board that supports our community's real-life cohesiveness. Participation is required.
We are not just a meetup group for moms. We began as a refuge for admirers of Ariel Gore and the Hip Mama zine. We continue many of the central Hip Mama tenets including striving to be a safe-haven for queer mamas, single mamas, and mamas who feel marginalized by society.
If you are a mama living in Chicago and wish to join the CMC, please submit a Potential Member Profile; you need to complete all questions and post a recognizable picture of yourself in order to become a member. Maintaining active membership status requires attending one event or posting on the message board at least twice a month. We currently have a membership cap set at 225 mamas.
