McHenry County, McHenry, IL
Nippersink is a scenic prairie stream that meanders through protected prairie and woodland areas as well as private lands. Slow to moderate current and even some small sections of easy rapids/riffles makes this a great paddle for paddlers of all levels provided you catch the right water levels.
Nippersink Creek is an old favorite so we hope you'll join us for this one. We'll meet at Keystone Landing and then car-shuttle to our take-out at Nippersink Canoe Base. This will be a 4 to 6 hour paddle depending on the current.
This is a BYOB (bring your own boat) event. There are no rentals in the area that I know of, sorry. I encourage members who have an extra boat to please bring it to share with others who want to join us.
Please understand there may be times when we will not be able to paddle due to certain conditions. Creeks and rivers can be tricky to paddle due to their changing water levels or high winds. Because of this, there may be times when trips have to be cancelled. Unsafe conditions can occur in less than 24 hours so please check the Meetup site before you leave for the event or call the organizer leading the trip.
All members MUST wear a PFD while afloat. NO PFD, NO Paddle!!
All members are responsible to secure their gear to the watercraft they are using. The DNR does write tickets!!
NO GLASS ALLOWED!!
Please dress and be prepared for unexpected weather conditions. We do paddle in cold rain!!
All members are required to have a dry bag with extra clothes. NO COTTON PLEASE!!
This will be a fun paddle. We hope you can join us.
