Our 4th 2007 Soccer Sunday Meetup!

  • May 13, 2007 · 2:00 PM
  • Foster Field

Great, great, great times on Sunday! Great weather (albeit about 2 degrees colder than it needed to be!), tons of great BBQ food, tons of great people (new and old alike) and a ton of great football! Does it get any better than that? So, lets get this Sunday organized: We'll be at Foster Field again and as always, we'll be splitting down into several skill level groups. There won't be any grilling this weekend, so bring you're own food and drink! ;o) Also, this week we'll get back to more structured game times. We were quite relaxed with it on Sunday because of the grilling. So, we'll all start as close to 2pm as possible, and everyone will play one full game of two 45 minute halves with a mass break in the middle for everyone. We'll then play some shorter games, possibly mixed skill level (depending on how many we have). Because of transportation logistics of our 2 sets of goals, we'll be having an official finish time of 5.30pm - but that is the earliest we'll finish. If our Pitch Logistics Manager can stay later, which he normally does, we'll still have use of the goals. Otherwise, we can keep playing with cones or whatever we have. I know its Mothers Day on Sunday, so I'll be expecting double the turnout with everyone bringing their Mums/Moms! It's Lady's Afternoon at WCW this Sunday! Some other business: * If you are one of the 100 who turned up on our first Sunday a few weeks ago, but haven't been since, we'd love to see you again! If you can't make it for some reason, or have any questions or concerns, please just let me know personally. I would be glad to help. * Please keep STRETCHING STRETCHING STRETCHING! Stretching is good for you, prevents injuries, and will help you play better. * Bring water and keep it by the sideline. Drink it whenever you want during the game. Don't wait for half time. None of us are professional athletes. This will become especially important in the summer months. * Please RSVP to this event. And, only RSVP Yes if you are going to come, otherwise just RSVP Maybe. On Sunday, while it was a great turnout (about 65 people), we had about 15 to 20 people who RSVP'd Yes but didn't show (our worst RSVPing record ever). That makes organizing this thing so much harder. If you RSVP Yes, but then can't make it, please take the two seconds to change your RSVP by Saturday morning at the latest. If you RSVP Yes and then just decide not to turn up... well then you are losing out big time!! Everyone has such a great time on Sunday afternoons! * Please remember it costs $1 to play. Yes, that's right, just $1! The vests you wear, the goals you use and this website aren't free, so your minimal suggested donation helps us have all the things we want to make this thing great. (Please remember, if you bring your own colored vest, it is still $1 to play). Foster Field is at Foster Ave and Lake Shore Drive. You can find us about 2 fields south of the main soccer fields. Please call me if you have any questions - 312.208.2023. That's all folks, I look forward to another great Sunday with you all!!

Too many people playing on too small of fields.

Had a really good time! It was my first, but it won't be my last. A little more space would be nice, but anything works.

We got hit pretty bad with all the kiddie soccer events happening on Sunday, so space was at a premium. Look out for a later start time next week which will resolve these issues and give everyone the space they need.

At the beginning, it was super crowded on the tiny pitch. Once we got spread out a bit, the game was great. I'm down with whatever needs to happen to get us some more space when we start.

For all levels I believe that no longer will small fields work. Although intermediate have fun and still played a good game...I for one was frustrated with the smaller field. This was at no fault of WCW though. But we need to have the bigger field because it seemed to have a more organized, better passing, and more tactical game last week when we were full field. Just my thoughts.
