PianoForte Foundation Celebrates Franz Schubert!

High quality classical music, open visual arts studios on multiple floors, wine and light food. And its all FREE !
We will meet Sunday Feb 3 at 11 am on the 10th floor landing near the stairs. Take the elevator (operated by real persons !) to the 10th floor. Its just outside the Curtiss Hall. Curtiss Hall was the location of the January 18th Woodwind Quintet MU. Use the link below to download and print the schedule. If you cannot print the schedule, there will be plenty of schedules at the event. Dress is casual to business casual. Likely our group will be too large to stay together. Plus, the scheduled concerts have direct conflicts. We will all have our favorite music to hear. So, this is a free flowing event with choices! Just join a few friends and choose your favorite concerts. Likely there will be visual artist studios open for viewing, too. Enjoy !

    Hi Everyone,

This Meet Up was not presented as a traditional event. The variety of concerts and conflicting schedules made it impossible keep the group together. Plus, we all have our music preferences. We wanted everyone to have a chance to meet members of the Chicago Classical Music Events Meet Up. That was the reason I gave a specific time to meet. After that, it was up to you to join a few new or old friends and choose your favorite events.

An improvement I can think of is name tags. That would have allowed our Meet Up members to identify each other in the halls and concerts. If we decide to attend this event again, name tags can be provided... (1 of 3)

      Steve-
You did a fabulous job with this huge turn out. The overwhelming majority had a great time! Please don't be offended. Big thank you for this amazing event & venue. I'm not sure what else you needed to do with so many concert choices. Keep in mind everyone, many times one of the artists performing is going to be our host!!

Next year, another member can act as host in the Schubert Cafe at 9 or 10 am. This free event is one of the two busiest for the Fine Arts Building. I suggest that member make reservations ahead of the event and if required, compensate the Cafe for the RSVP members that do not show. Or search for another venue nearby and make appropriate arrangements.

If you came and chose to ignore (or contribute to) the optional $10 donation request, I am confident you had a good time. I missed a few concerts I wanted to hear because I wanted to greet our Meet Up members. But I felt the sacrifice was part of my role as host. To my surprise, I enjoyed it.

For all the members that I met on Sunday, it was great seeing you. You have my sincere thanks for attending this great event. This concert series now has a permanent place on my classical music calendar. I hope the Fine Arts Building Schubertiade becomes an annual tradition for our group, too. (3 of 3)

In my roll as host, I was on the 10th floor landing from about 10:45 am to about 12:15 pm. Everyone who arrived at the landing was greeted with: "Are you attending the Classical Music Meet Up ?". The 10th floor had one venue adjacent to the Meet Up location. But, most of the concerts and crowds were on the 8th floor. So if you were directed there by the kind staff or followed the crowd, you would have missed our Meet Up. We specifically avoided the 8th floor for the initial Meet Up location to limit the confusion caused by those crowds. By my count, I personally met 15 Meet Up members vs. 56 RSVP's. No doubt, the Sunday morning start (and the afternoon Superbowl parties) affected the turnout ... (2 of 3)

I apologize but I guess I am very casual & easy going with the events. When I help post a suggested event, I 'm listed as the organizer. If I know I won't be in attendance, the name of the member hosting is posted. This unique, fabulous event was listed as "free-flowing".
I encourage everyone to submit events & bring friends!Plans & situations change, especially with large groups-so always be flexible & enjoy the event. I am passionate about diversity, sharing & having fun! I hope to bring a wide variety of special events & improve communication on my end.
Thanks again. I appreciate all the feedback!

I thought some of the musicians I heard were quite good. I think that the reason most people did not go to the meetup was that it was set for 11:00 a.m. which was the time that the concerts actually started. By then, you had to be in the hall and seated if you were attending the first concert. That's why I didn't go to the meetup spot. In the future, let's set the meetup spot a lot earlier and in a place good for socializing, like the Schubert Cafe. Then people could have met, connected and maybe sat together at some of the concerts.

I got there a bit late (early afternoon, past the 11am official start time), and then got busy enjoying the music and waiting for a couple friends of mine to join. So, I suppose I wasn't really expecting to see anyone from the Meetup group, unless I happened to bump into them and recognized them. It was great, in my opinion, that it was so crowded -- even if one didn't know anyone, it was still fun to see so many people there!

As for actually meeting: it can be hard to "meet up," especially at an event that is so fluid like this, and especially if you don't know who you're meeting! :) To have more interaction with other members requires that a specific place and time be established, or a sign posted, and/or smartphone users have the Meetup App, to stay abreast of where folks are, etc., if they want to.

Regardless, the music and venue was wonderful, and I'm so grateful to Steve for alerting us all to this!

This was my first time to attend this meetup and I was looking forward to meeting other members....but saw no one at the meetup spot! Very disappointing and was also told this was a free event, but was hit with a request for a $10 donation when I arrived. Unfortunately, I had no cash on me and couldn't contribute and the lady who informed me of the donation gave me a very dirty look. Once I got past all that the program was GREAT!!

It IS a free event! Dirty looks are rude. Only 6 people from meetup were there at 11:00.

Yes it is but not with meetup because no one had name tags and most did not show. I met someone there not in the meetup. Better than the POF site.

Had a good time, but didn't really spot anyone at the meet up place. Came there at 11. Maybe next time will be better!

Pamela I was suppose to come too, but didn't make it. I was having some back pain and it started snowing. However, we all are going to get together soon as friends. Sorry Diva.

Hi Terry, I will be at the event at 11 am. There is a single concert being held at 11 am. Around 12 noon, the concerts schedule fills up with multiple concerts and venues. There is a cafe at street level that offers American fare comfort food. Its located at the entrance to the event. You are welcome to get a group together for brunch or something light (the hot cocoa is delicious !). See you on the 10th floor !
