I'm an early riser, so I had to bail. It was nice meeting the group, some pretty knowledgeable music lovers. The program featured composer Fritz Kreisler, a turn of the (20th) century violinist and composer. I was expecting something different, perhaps a post-romantic or modernist. Turns out that Kreisler composed "in the style of" classical greats such as Vivaldi, Paganini, Beethoven and others. However, it was Ilya Kaler's virtuosity that was the real centerpiece of the performance. Bravo to Kaler and to the entire orchestra. I look forward to future performances - Mahler or Brahms, perhaps?

    Hey everyone,

The concert is Saturday! Remember to arrive a little early. Traffic in Lincoln Park can be heavy in the evening. There will be special seating for the Meetup group, but only for the number of people who have confirmed here that they are attending the concert. If you are tentative, please just choose to come because Ilya Kaler is amazing and you will not be disappointed.

Afterwards there are a number of good places that we can go after the concert. I will be in front by the ticket table. Please come and say hi when you get there. After the concert we can all go out as a group.

There is a parking lot adjacent to the Concert Hall. If you plan to drive, get there early to guarantee a space in the lot. If the lot fills up, there is also street parking. I look forward to meeting each of you at the event.

If you want coffee before the performance, there is a Starbucks at the corner of Webster and Halsted which is about three blocks from the Depaul Concert Hall. You could meet up there before the concert. As mentioned in an earlier message, there will be specific seating for the Meetup Group. I suggest the Meetup participants plan to arrive about 15 minutes early. There are quite a few places just down the street on Lincoln Ave to meet for drinks before or afterwards. Unfortunately, I will be working at the concert so I won't be able to do a get together before or after the concert.

Pam, Yes, you can still pay at the door; I understand there are still some tickets available. Just tell the folks at the ticket table that you are with the Meet-Up Group to get the discounted rate and be directed to the group's seats.

Scott, there will be reserved seats for the Meet-Up group to sit together and enjoy the concert together.

I have registered and will be paying at the door. Will this be okay providing I arrive early to be able to seat with the group?

Hi Kay. As the formal event host, could you please provide a way for Meet Up attendees to get together either before or after the concert? I've attended this orchestra in the past (Forest Park, last spring), and it's great! However, it is important to remember that the Meet Up group members are also interested in . . . meeting up! Perhaps you could designate a pre-concert location near the entrance? Thanks.

I think tickets are still available!

This is expected to be a premier concert this fall. If you've never been to the Concert Hall at DePaul…plan to go because the acoustics are great. It's close to lots of transportation options….and also wonderful dining experiences if you want to make a real evening of it. Hope to see you there.

Thanks for the parking tips! I am new to meetup. Really excited about this event... I absolutely love classical music!
Do we all sit together? Does anyone meet up for coffee or a drink before or after or should I just plan for the 8-10 event? thanks,

      Hi Piper,
There will be reserved seating for Meetup people, but you need to get your tickets online in case the concert sells out. I'm one of the organizers so I can't make any pre-concert coffee, but we can go as a meetup group after somewhere.

Excellent. I've got my ticket so I'm good to go. Would love to meet up afterward. Thanks Deno!

The parking lot is just left off Belden through a large gate. If you drive on Belden and reach Halsted you have gone too far. Belden only runs east.

  • Scott

Location of the parking lot? Thanks.

Any advice on parking or transportation? I'd be coming down from Park Ridge. I'd be glad to ride share.

    • Deno J. A.

There is a free parking lot as well as ample street parking nearby.
