Romantic German Lieder: Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Strauss & more!

This FREE recital at the Skokie Public Library features an encore performance of "Going to the Chapel," a collection of Schubert songs celebrating love, betrothal, and marriage. Die Geselligkeit, D. 609
Hochzeitslied, D. 463
Licht und Liebe, D. 352
Liebhaber in allen Gestalten, D. 558
Der Hochzeitsbraten, D. 930

Also included are other spring-themed Romantic German Lieder by contemporaries and successors to Schubert, from Schumann to Strauss. Featured are selections from "Dichterliebe," duets by Mendelssohn, "Mädchenblumen" and "Mädchenlieder" by Strauss and Brahms, and more.

The performance takes place on Sunday, March 23, 3:00pm at the Skokie Public Library, 5215 Oakton, Skokie, IL. Admission is free

Performers include:
Katy Compton, Clarice Warrick, Ashlee Hardgrave, sopranos

I thought I was going, but I have to attend to a work-related task. And on a Sunday to boot. Ouch! Hopefully, the next free event I can come and mingle with you guys.

I regret that I have not attended any events for a long time. I was sworn in as a volunteer for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) in October 2013. We protect the well-being of abused and neglected children in the foster care system.
I hope to be able to join you at an upcoming meet-up soon.
    Enjoy!

More info coming. Library parking lot available.

    March 10, 2014

    • vicki e.

And if the library lot is full, you can park across the street. Easy.

I think you can also park at parking lot that faces Village Hall . Hopefully, on Sunday nobody comes there (to Village Hall) for any business as it is closed on Sunday. I don't think they would tow your car if you park there

There are some good choices within walking distance of the library if anybody is interested in getting something to eat or drink. Lets meetup after the performance to decide. You'll be able to find me by the Swans (stainless steel sculpture) on your left as you leave the auditourium. Looking forward to seeing everybody on Sunday.

Well, Sheldon that is a very good proposal, I think . Which place would you like to choose for meetup after concert? Would Starbucks Coffee shop near Skokie Swift Bus Terminal by Dempster St. be OK and serve the purpose of communicating and knowing each other??

    March 21, 2014

  • marylou s.

what about a meeting place before concert so we can meet each other? About 2:30?

    March 21, 2014

  • Lori B.

I just called the library & was told pre-registration is not necessary. They do recommend arriving 30 mins early.

    1 · March 16, 2014

  • Lori B.

We will need to pre-register by calling: call[masked] to sign up by phone. Contact person: Christie Robinson. Public registration ends 2 days before performance. Then it is a first come first serve basis.

Per Skokie Library: Admission to all performances in the Petty Auditorium are free. If needed, tickets are given out thirty minutes prior to the performance. Seating for all events is on a first-come, first-served basis, and the doors to the auditorium open fifteen minutes before the performance begins.
FYI: meetup host will not be able to block off/ reserve seating.
    Please plan to arrive early.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
