Romantic Rapture: Verdi, Mendelssohn, Prokofiev

The Chicago Philharmonic again offers Meetup members half price tickets ($25; enter code MEET at https://web.ovationtix.com/trs/pe.c/9784250) Scott Speck, Conductor; Benjamin Beilman, Violin
On Mother’s Day, Scott Speck returns for Romantic Rapture, an evening of great Romantic and post-Romantic masterworks. Guest violinist Benjamin Beilman, 2012 Avery Fisher Career Grant recipient and alumnus of the Music Institute of Chicago, woos our audience with the singing strains of Felix Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. In celebration of Verdi’s 200th birthday, we perform the Overture to his opera La forza del destino. We also present highlights of Sergei Prokofiev’s most brilliant ballet, Romeo and Juliet. Specially selected actors from Chicago Shakespeare Theater perform highlights from Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, portraying the most famous young lovers in theater history.

It was an awesome concert. The Mendelssohn Violin Concerto was a knockout, and the Philharmonic was in full force for the Prokofiev Romeo and Julliet. Chicago Shakespeare Theater provided scenes during the interludes. No one was sitting in the reserved block of seats, so I'm not sure if anyone attended or not. I understand that Sunday evening is not the most ideal time, but that's the schedule. Hope to see more folks next season for this great and accessible orchestra!

Please be sure to purchase tickets using the MEET code on the Chicago Philharmonic website (row GG in the balcony). So far, I'm not seeing any seats purchased other than my two. Meet before the concert at this location. Thanks.

The block of seats reserved for Meetup is balcony, row GG seats 31-50. Plan to arrive by 7 p.m. and meet in the reserved seating area. This will avoid the difficulty of identifying members in the crowded lobby area. Thanks.
