Extra-Life Charity Event!

IMPORTANT UPDATES:

Hello everyone... Extra Life is upon us!

This event will cost $15.00 per person to attend. The cost breaks down to $10.00 towards EXP for the cost of the venue, and $5.00 towards food/drink (Pizza, snacks, soda, and water).  Any food money left over will be donated to the charity.  This ensures that everyone will be able to eat and have beverages during the event.  If you'd like to donate more money to the charity, feel free!  We can take donations on site via cash, card, or Paypal.

If you weren't able to raise any money, please think of making a small donation instead, as this is a charity event.  The donation could be in cash, food, drink, etc.  (If purchasing food or drink, please note we have 15 people RSVP'd in attendance.)

Please see Steve's comment below regarding what EXP has to offer for games.  It would be wise to bring an additional controller for a system of chocie and maybe even some games you want to play in case EXP doesn't offer the game or only has a limited amount of copies.

The venue is open to the public during our event, so feel free to invite friends and family to come out and game.

I hope you're all ready to game all day and all night!  Bring your friends out for this event and enjoy a great marathon for a great cause!

-----------------------

This year, we want to start early raising money for kids at the Lurie Children's Hospital in Chicago.

If you choose to join the team, you will work towards a fundraising goal. This year, I want to challenge everyone for our team to work towards raising $2000.00. Last year we raised $830.00.

If you are interested in joining our team, you can join at the following link: http://www.extra-life.org/

Click to register and click "Join a Team." Then find the "Chicago VGC" team and click to join. Select the "IL-Lurie's Children Hospital" (or any other hospital if you choose), and you're good to go. We'll be hosting meetups to raise money for this and will also look for a hosting site for the group.

Extra-Life is a 24 hour gaming marathon (supposedly it's 25 hours this year), where you raise money for kids and then game for 24 hours straight. It's like a relay for life but you game instead of walk.

Email me with any questions, and again check out their site to register:
http://www.extra-life.org/

Use this page to RSVP and ask questions/comments. We'll have Google Hangouts for more planning sessions!

It just occurred to me that extra life will be hosted the same night we have to turn the clocks back. The demigods of mischief and torture will be hard at work on that particular day. "Oh you guys having fun during your 25 hour gaming marathon? Good.. because we've decided to roll back the clocks by one hour. Have fun everybody....."

Hey, all. Hope you are looking forward to Saturday. This is going to be great. Here are a few details about what is available, gaming wise, at EXP.

    EXP has4 Wiis, 2 Gamecubes, 6 PS3s (all PS3s are capable of playing PS1 games), 1 xbox 360, 1 nintendo 64, 1 PS2.

You may bring your own systems & games, too, if your desire and are HIGHLY encouraged to bring your own controllers (EXP has plenty PS3 controllers but controllers for all other systems are very limited.)

I will be bringing a Wii U. And a few games.

What consoles/games will you be bringing?

I don't know about that but I do know that there are TV's in their own little "nook" areas.

Some of our CRTs have headphone jacks. Our 50" TVs do not.

Alright everyone... In order to participate in this event, you must sign up with the Extra Life team on Extra-life.org. That is where they keep track of the money being raised. Currently we have 11 members on the Extra-Life page. I'll be emailing only those that have registered regarding information pertaining to our Extra Life event as we may be changing locations from EXP to a private house. If you need help signing up, then email me. Our goal is to raise money for kids in need, so remember that when you are sharing with friends and family on Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Hey this sounds like a really interesting event. How many people are on a team and what do we need to do raise money?

    July 27, 2013

    • Amanda

Hey Jenn, sorry for the delay. I was a bit ill and away from the computer. To raise money, you can either collect cash and send it through the site, or send your link out and people can donate straight to your own personal page once you signed up for the site. Let me know if you have any other questions. We'll be meeting up online for a Google hang out or some other way soon.

    Hi all,
I'm currently in Florida (I'm getting married next week), so I'm not working on this at the moment. When I arrive home at the end of the month, then we'll start some planning sessions for the charity. Please sign up to join our team and start fundraising. I saw we already have a few members who have started to collect some money! Thank you!!! If you have any questions, let me know. Instructions to join the team are in the event description box, above.

If I participate I will require the following:

    1. Coffee (and lots of it)

    3. At least one tube of Icy-Hot for my Carpal tunnel

    4. A bottle of Percocet 5. A Pez dispenser.
