I have a 10 1/2 acre farm in Crabapple and have a few sheep (for fiber) along with a horse and my small flock.
Barred Rocks and Americanuas but also have a Dominique and RIR hen.
Currently 1 banty cochin roo, 1 americana roo and 9 hens
I love watching them run up to me to see what goodies I have and gathering the smooth fresh eggs.
4 years but it's in the blood, my grandfather was a poultry farmer in NJ before I was born, my aunt raised chickens, my sister is raising chickens and my mom always has missed her chickens

WTB : Used Plucker & Scalder for on butchering farm
"Use to be a place in Cumming a number of years ago but I'm not sure if they still do it and can't remember the name. Unfortunately folks can't do it on their farms/property for anyone but themselves (fed regulations)...."
Folks not just fighting to keep chickens
"Looks like folks are fighting for more rights than keeping chickens. A new national movement has started to allow folk to hang laundry! Solar power to the people http://news.yahoo.com..."
For Free - 12 Beautiful Pet Hens
"Martha, I am so sorry to hear that you lost your case. This is one reason we are selling our farm here in Milton before they start changing the rules"
"One problem might be selling them as a pair. It's always harder to sell roosters then hens...."
"Looks like she's gone broody, you can try just removing her from the nesting box and putting outside in the sun. With the shorter days and less sun a number of birds either quit or slow down their laying...."
"We use a Havahart trap to catch the predators then have the county animal control come by to pick it up...."
"Does your coop close up at night. You definitely want to be able to have a safe enclosure. If you don't have one try using a non-mesh dog crate. Make sure to put smaller wire mesh on the door so if it's a weasel it can't get in...."
To keep or not to keep our Roo
"I would not keep that rooster. I've gotten rid of a couple of roos that attacked family members. Like Kim said it's too dangerous once they get their spurs since they like to go for the eyes."
"Depending on the date Steve and I would be interested"
"http://www.ajc.com/ne... is the article on yesterday's court date. Much better coverage than what was in the paper"
