I've been raising a backyard flock for about 2 years. Best eggs I've ever eaten.

Hey Harlowe: Sorry to read of your run in with a hawk. Me too. And my other 5 were killed by a critter that got under the wire. Get some more and keep on trucking. Great pic. Is that a fishing pole in that young man's hand? cool.
Hi Harlowe, We live in the 'burbs, which is good territory for several types of hawks, young and old. When I had the farm, I would keep the hens in the covered yard and let out about an hour before dark. That helped quite a bit. Unfortunately, if you have chickens, they will get prey upon by dog, mink or bird. Best of luck!
Greetings Harlowe, hated to hear about your hawk attack. I lost a pullet to a hawk attack a few weeks back. We've had a breeding female living on the farm for years and it looks like this year's youngster has decided to stick around and harrass my flock
Hope to see you at a meet-up
