I'm an industrial design manager with a bit more than a decade of experience behind me.
Straight off my Linkedin profile: "Design is multifaceted. It is about creating experiences. I work with companies whose mission is to grow their business through innovation, differentiation, and by meeting consumer needs. I have over 10 years of working knowledge in many industries including furniture, lighting, consumer products, graphics, packaging, and display design. My diverse career has focused on creating user centered products and managing teams internally at large corporations like Masco and Rock Tenn (formerly Smurfit-Stone), at small design consultancies like Eldon Design Associates, and working for private manufacturers like Kohler Company, Richard Shultz, and Michael Graves." On a personal level: I'm an urban dweller who wants more space to use my green thumbs, a dog lover, and a transplant from the east coast.
On the topic of being a woman and a designer, I wonder how the group feels about defining ourselves as women in design vs women with careers vs women as leaders vs women in society. I also would to grow my network with talented creative people, sharing best practices, etc.
Thanks to Gemma for an email about this group!
