Chicago Electronic Music Meetup Guidelines for members - updated 2013.10.29
This meetup group is for musicians, artist, DJs, and entertainers to network and meet other local artists at workshops, events, and collaboration venues. Our intention is to make friends and collaborate with others. This group is also intended for fans of electronic music, dancers, promoters, and listeners to come out and enjoy good company and share their love of music with others.
MEETUPS for this group can now be categorized into TWO EVENT TYPES. EVENT HOSTS will classify each meetup so standard expectations can be met by both members and event hosts. Age range of members are not limited... however, most events will take place at 21 + venues.
TYPE 1 MEETUP: Those that RSVP will be given contact info to the host and will meetup on a case by case basis. No meetup beforehand is scheduled and it is up to the member and host to coordinate.
TYPE 2 MEETUP: Those that RSVP will be given time and place for the designated meetup. Members are encouraged to COMMENT in the EVENT when they purchase tickets. MEMBERS are encouraged to maintain HIGH communication with the event host for that particular meetup via comments and / or email / text so everyone knows who will show up. TYPE 2 MEETUPS usually require purchasing tickets beforehand while TYPE 1 MEETUPS are more loosely organized.
As a meetup group, we ALWAYS intend to meetup. Sometimes things don't go as planned and the universe has a way of preventing us from following through on our plans. We like when people RSVP for our events. So, please keep them coming. However, if you attend a TYPE 2 MEETUP that involves gathering beforehand OR purchasing tickets, we ask MEMBERS to communicate more highly with the EVENT HOST and post COMMENTS in the event section to ensure the integrity of the meetup process. This makes the event more enjoyable for members and ALSO hosts.
EVENT HOSTS and SUGGESTIONS:
If you are a member, we encourage members to play an active role within the group. So, meetups may be SUGGESTED by creating them on the meetup website. You should contact the Organizer to inform him if you plan to attend your suggested meetup. If you do not communicate your intended plans, your suggestion may be deleted in order to preserve the integrity of the meetup process. If you SUGGEST an event, please be sure to indicate what TYPE meetup it will be (TYPE 1 OR 2). We hope that most SUGGESTED events will be HOSTED by the person suggesting it.
As organizers, we will limit the emails we send to the group as much as possible. For example, we send members FREE MUSIC from artists in the group AND sometimes we will send PROMOS we believe is beneficial to the group. If you are an artist looking to promote your music, band, or event, contact the organizer before you post anything. If we never met you or if it conflicts with one of our other primary events your post may be deleted. We encourage promoters to get in touch with the organizers. We just need to be sure those promotions are LEGIT. We also want to protect members from SPAM.
PROFILE VISIBILITY for MEMBERS:
If you are an ACTIVE member, we ask that you adjust your profile visibility settings for your other groups and interests to UNHIDDEN. We also hope you can provide a picture of yourself on your profile. This group encourages a safe and friendly environment for all members. We encourage full disclosure and discourage anonymous member accounts. Tell others before they join...this is Chicago Electronic Music meetup....members are here mainly for the MUSIC...
How do we define Electronic Music?
Electronic music is a broad category of music featuring computers and electronic musical instruments (analog synthesizers, hammond organ, electric guitar, theremin, telharmonium, etc.) It ranges from experimental art music to dance music to just plain noise.
Although electronic music has a wide variety of genres, many of the most popular ones are well defined. This meetup group includes enthusiasts of many genres. The organizer of this meetup group is most interested in positive and uplifting music that is good for the soul. We will endorse as many of these events as possible.
Many people want to know more about the differences between house, techno, trance, and other genres, so we've compiled a little information that distinguishes between some of these different genres. Check out our ABOUT CHICAGO ELECTRONIC MUSIC page on this website for info on different genres.
"It's about music!!! Not one music style is better than the other,
Not one music style is more true than the other, the whole thing is based on respect. It's all about respect, respect to the music, respect to the Dj's, respect to the crowd, and respect to each other. It's all music, music never seperate people! (Carl Cox / Sven Vath)
