你好！If you're looking to learn or practice Chinese, you've come to the right place! If you're a native Mandarin speaker and would like to practice your English, we would also love to help! 如果你是汉语母语者而你想练习你的英文口语，我们想帮助你！
While our group does have social or culture-related meetups from time to time, most of our events center around the language.
• 谈话 (conversation) meetups
Please keep your English to a minimum at meetups specifically labeled “谈话”. Even if your spoken Chinese is limited, use whatever you know. When learning a language, keep in mind that words don't come easily in the middle of a conversation until you've used them over and over again.
• 语言交换 (language exchange) meetups
Since native Chinese speakers are kind enough to attend and help us with our Chinese, we want to return the favor and help them with their English. Normally for two hours, these meetups are broken up into four 30-minute sessions—two English-only and two Chinese-only. We may split into two groups of beginner and advanced, depending on the turnout.
• 社交/文化 (social/cultural) meetups
We go out to eat, see shows, attend concerts, sing karaoke, and do anything else our members want. Feel free to send suggestions to the organizers. Chinese isn't required but you are welcome to use it.
• 读书会 (book club)
We have a book club for advanced language learners!
We reserve the right to cancel any meetups where very few members RSVP'd.
If you RSVP “Yes” to an event with limited seating and need to cancel, please give the host at least 24 hours notice. If you fail to give adequate notice for a limited attendance event, this will count as a no-show. Members with a history of 3 no-shows will be suspended.
• Half Hour Rule
All conversation meetups will be in Mandarin only. But if native Mandarin speakers wish to practice their English, we can temporarily switch to English-only for 30 minutes. Note that use of this rule is at the discretion of the event host.
• Code of Conduct
Our meetup group is dedicated to providing a harassment-free environment for all members, and as such, we have an official Code of Conduct which applies to all our events.
We are always looking to improve the group and make this beneficial for everyone so please send your ideas, comments, and suggestions to the organizers.
