Viewer’s Choice: Days of Being Wild! (FREE SCREENING) - Hong Kong Film Festival

On Friday, August 2, 2013 at 7 pm The Smithsonian Freer|Sackler Galleries will present the Viewer’s Choice: Days of Being Wild, part of the 18th Annual Made in Hong Kong Film Festival!

Cost: Free
Location: Freer Gallery of Art, Meyer Auditorium

Freer|Sackler Facebook fans chose Days of Being Wild as the final film in our tribute to Leslie Cheung. Set in Hong Kong in 1960, the film stars Cheung as Yuddy, an aimless young man who discovers that he was adopted and decides to search for his birthmother. While on his quest he seduces and abandons a demure shop clerk (Maggie Cheung). She befriends a cop (Andy Lau), who in turn takes Yuddy to task for his self-obsessed life philosophy.
Director Wong Kar-wai's sumptuous visual style and passionate romanticism are everywhere evident in this powerfully acted, poetic fantasia of love and loss. "As he floods the screen with beauty and fills the soundtrack with hypnotic rhythms, he forges a filmmaking style of incomparable eroticism" (Manohla Dargis, New York Times). (Dir.: Wong Kar-wai, 1991, 94 min., 35mm, Cantonese with English subtitles)
