What are your favorite Chinese dishes and foods?

A lil' bit of everything, and then some seconds. I love some good hot pot and dim sum, and those hidden gems of restaurants in sprawling metropolitans that serves some good ol' fashion Asian food without the American flavor (i.e., not Panda Express).

How would you describe your level of Chinese? (Eg it's my native language OR I don't speak it OR I learned some dialect from my family but little Mandarin, OR I can speak a few words, simple conversations, etc.)

I was born in Taiwan, but when I was five-years-old daddy dearest decided that we were packing up and moving to Smalltown, U.S.A. with an Asian population of 5 (ironically and quite coincidentally, the number of people in my family equals 5). Therefore, I speak a little Mandarin with a Southern accent, can read even less, and won't be writing Chinese poetry anytime soon. I also have a quirky habit of translating English expressions into Chinese and then saying them as part of everyday conversation, which doesn't work nearly as well as I had hoped.

What kind of events and activities would you be interested in? What would you like to do at our events?

As long as people are having fun, it's good enough for me.

What could this group provide for you that no other Meetup could?

Good question. As I just found this website a few hours ago, my judgment has not yet been tainted by bias or brand-loyalty arguments.

Where did you grow up? How did you learn Chinese? Tell us your story.

see Part 2.

Hi - I'm here, want to meet some cool people and eat some great food. Story of my life.
