What are your favorite Chinese dishes and foods?

Whatever Sera feeds me. But I do not eat meat, only a little fish.

How would you describe your level of Chinese? (Eg it's my native language OR I don't speak it OR I learned some dialect from my family but little Mandarin, OR I can speak a few words, simple conversations, etc.)

I speak only a few words but can understand very basic Mandarin

What kind of events and activities would you be interested in? What would you like to do at our events?

What could this group provide for you that no other Meetup could?

I am busy with work and need activities where my wife and stepdaughter can relax and use their native language while giving me opportunity to learn more.

Where did you grow up? How did you learn Chinese? Tell us your story.

I grew up in Oregon but have lived all over the US and parts of Australia. My daughter is half Chinese, but currently studying in UAE. My current wife, Sera Qihui Shi and stepdaughter, Sandy, are native Chinese having recently come to the US from Nanchang. We married on November 6 of this year. I travel to China almost annually and have lectured there (in English) at the Chinese Academy of Science.

Introduction

I am Orville Butler, formerly a historian of science at the American Institute of Physics. I am a project historian and am trying to get my startup--Dragon Eagle LLC--off the ground. My spouse, Qihui (Sera) Shi, works at Bank of America.
