Local Chinese Language and Culture resources:

University of MN - Offers many resources for those interest in China. A starting point is Don't forget their bookstore for Chinese language text books.

Tandem at U of M - Tandem/Tandem Plus, a University of Minnesota program to connect people learning a language with a native speaker who wants to learn your native language. A win win for both Tandem UofM.

Chinese American Association MN (CAAM) - Local organization that among other things runs a Chinese language school that meets on Saturday mornings. The school is mainly for children, but there are adult classes.

Taiwanese American Association Minnesota (TAAMN) - Local organization.

Minnesota Community Technical College - They just started having Chinese language classes in the fall of 2006. At least some of the classes were in the evening. - They offer classes for native and non-native Chinese speakers and both child and adult classes.

Yinghua Academy - Yinghua Academy is the first Chinese immersion school in the Midwest – and the first Chinese immersion charter public school in the U.S.

Minnesota China Academy - The mission of Minnesota China Academy is to teach Chinese language, culture, arts and other related subjects, with its main focus on students who do not have a Chinese language background at home. - A website for Chinese in Minnesota

Minneaoplis Institute of Arts - They have a large collection of Chinese art and artifacts.

Chinese Language and Culture Resources on the Internet: - Chinese language lessons with audio. Pod casts are free, but for a small monthly fee you can get text in English, pin yin, and traditional and simplified characters to go along with the pod casts. Lessons are at four different levels of proficiency. Updated daily. - Chinese language lessons with audio. - Various Chinese Language resources including a dictionary. - Online English-to-Chinese or Chinese-to-English dictionary. A little rough, but it works. - Sign up for a weekly e-mail newsletter with summaries of news articles about China from various sources. - Online shopping for Chinese items. Mainly kids stuff, though not all.
