Aug. 16 Chinese Workshop (Meeting Up With Kat In Person - At Last!): FAQ 19

Kat's back in town for a couple of weeks! We'll do two "in-person" workshops - each with two hours of actual lessons and plenty of practice!

Aug. 16 Chinese Workshop: FAQ 19 - "Are you serious?"

When we hear a statement, we are generally required to respond. For the ones we can'enthusiastically endorse, we often go automatically, "really?", with a verbal eye-rolling, "interesting!", or with outright disbelief, "are you serious?"

This lesson is all about responding to statements (or stories?) that you are not so sure of. Those moments of awkward silence that you need to fill - and with none other than Chinese!

Things can get even more interesting when your Chinese friends share their views that you - for cultural, political, or simply personal reasons - have a hard time letting go unchallenged. What can you say to be true to yourself without causing a diplomatic incident? Now we're not just talking language, we're venturing into some deep water.

From "maybe it's just me, but…," or "nothing personal, but…," to "I'll probably get in trouble for saying this, but...," we've got you covered. Join Kat to learn, practice, and finally say what you truly mean to say!

This lesson is better suited for non-beginners. But if you are adventurous and do not mind that Kat has to keep an even (/median :)) pace for all, come and check it out, no matter your level.

You will have two opportunities to learn with Kat in person. After that we will be back on Skype.

To join, RSVP with non-refundable $10 (except with a cancelation of your RSVP at least 24 hours prior), or $15 before class for walk-in, for the 2-hour lesson. A printout for the lesson will be provided. Since Kat can only do two Workshops there will be no limit on the number of participants.

I hope to see old and new friends alike. Dao shi jian!
