Kat's last workshop in town! Time changed to 2:00 pm.
Aug. 19 Chinese Workshop + Potluck: FAQ 20 - "So?": 10 Essential Expressions That May Or May Not Be Nice!
So we have done the nice and proper at our Aug. 16 Workshop, now let's go informal!
There are those moments that you let your sentiments known, niceties be damned. Or sometimes you mean to make a point with stronger language. How do you say, "what's your problem?" Ask Kat!
We will also make this last chance to learn with Kat in person an occasion. :) Bring some food, drinks or snacks to share (it doesn't have to be Chinese food). The atrium makes for a great picnic spot. The Sunday Picnic was also one of our Workshop traditions before Kat left town.
Bring with you a list of expressions you have been dying to know how to say in Chinese. Or just go with some perennial favorites: "not that there's anything wrong with that!", "go figure", "give me a break!" There are so many expressions we use more often than big fancy words or high-brow sentences. They may even sound very funny in English if we translate them literally. Come join us and bag some of them for your own use. (And no, Chinese are not always "polite". :))
This lesson is better suited for non-beginners. But if you are adventurous and do not mind that Kat has to keep an even (/median :)) pace for all, come and check it out, no matter your level.
This is probably your last opportunity to learn with Kat in person. After that we will be back on Skype.
To join, RSVP with non-refundable $10 (except with a cancelation of your RSVP at least 24 hours prior), or $15 before class for walk-in, for the 2-hour lesson. A printout for the lesson will be provided. Since Kat can only do two Workshops there will be no limit on the number of participants.
I hope to see old and new friends alike. Dao shi jian!
*Kat is a published author of 18 Chinese books and currently instructs at a community college.
