From Mandarin-speaking friends. From the limited vocabulary they've taught me thus far, I would guess that they're not interested in much more about me than my general welfare.
At work in 2007 I was told I needed to learn Mandarin (this requirement was canceled later). I had been learning from Asian vegetarian friends before then as we celebrated holidays and socialized at vegetarian and vegan events.
Nimen hao! 你们好 In 2007, I began learning Mandarin for work at HSPH oh so slowly then was told that my learning Mandarin was no longer needed. By then, I was already studying with the DwD part of this meetup (and enjoying every one of the events).
Well, we've met periodically and regularly in several places. For one, the GBBCC in Cambridge is a great place. and so are the vegetarian dining out events, the high calibre of those who attend the Mandarin-English events, and the networking with other vegetarian-oriented events. While you're welcome in my set of programs, even if you're NOT yet vegetarian or vegan, those who ARE vegetarian or vegans (and not merely 'tire kickers' checking out this part of 'the scene') AND those who don't mind being with them will get the most from participation and thus are our REAL 'clientele' and 'target market'.
