Is the word "Christmas"­ theological?

We have been hearing this season that unbelievers are "allergic" to the word "Christmas" so that *saying* Christmas or not is being touted as some sort of "litmus test" by some. Yet Richard Dawkins says that he celebrates Christmas and says that the word has been drained of any religious meaning.
