Circlesinging Together - October

We're going to meet, and we're going to sing!

Stand (or sit) in the circle and our leaders will teach you parts to sing. We tend to open with some call-and-response, then move into some spontaneously-composed choral pieces, and from there sprinkle in a variety of singing games. No improvisation needed -- we'll do it for you, if you like. You'll be safely encouraged to improvise as little or as much as you want to. We'll have a short break in the middle, then more singing fun, and we tend to close with some long, peaceful tones.

Our new location and ever-refining format both worked well last time. Let's keep at it.

Amy, thanks for the heartfelt comment ! Being "in tune" with others is truly can be a therapeutic experiance. It is also joyful and in many way a very spiritual experiance. And its fun!
    Come again!!

This group activity is very therapeutic and has truly impressed me. Can you recommend any literature on this?

Thank you so much! This is one of my favorite comments I've gotten since I started doing this kind of thing, not so long ago. I suspect the other leaders feel the same as me; it's good to know that the experience may be as rewarding for others as we find it.

"Literature!" Precious little. You'll want to look up Bobby McFerrin, Voicestra, and an album called "Circlesongs." You'll probably find some interviews where he talks about it. Here's a good one:

Rhiannon has just come out with a book about Vocal Improvisation (an "umbrella" term that encompasses Circlesinging and a few other practices). It's called "Vocal River." Her website:

      I blog about it:

This article is just about group-singing in general:
      So is this one:

This is one of the longest-running regular singing-circles:

      So is this: (NYC)

If any of this is off-target, tell me more about what you're looking for and I will try to find better references.

      SO glad you liked it!

Hi, I'm planning on attending but I'll have to leave a little before 4. Also, is this an indoor event or outdoor?
