SUMMARY:Greater Boston Business Networking Group Meetup
DESCRIPTION:Greater Boston Business Networking Group\n\nThe GBBN group has
been around since 2007 and we are 25+ members. We meet every Wednesday for
coffee and conversation at Jackrabbit Design's offices in E. Milton Square
(333 Edge Hill Road).\n\nWe have open networking for the first 30 minutes o
r so and then usually do a round table discussion of topics of interest for
the next 30 minutes.\n\nIt is a very loose and energetic group of business
professionals looking to grow and expand their networks and build their bu
sinesses.\n\nThe group tries to keep one member from each industry so there
is not a lot of overlap in the exchange of leads. You can visit our websit
e to see what industries are already part of the group. http://www.greaterb
ostonbusinessnetwork.com/\n\nThere are no costs or obligations to join the
group\, we just ask that you attend every week and help expand the group by
bringing insightful questions\, good humor and of course business leads!\n
\nAny questions\, please email David Belyea at dave@jumpingjackrabbit.com.\

SUMMARY:OpenCoffee Cambridge Meetup
DESCRIPTION:OpenCoffee Cambridge Meetup\n\nFellow web entrepreneurs and VCs
gather once a week in Boston to grab some coffee\, free WiFi\, and chat ab
out what's new.\n\nAround the world\, tech entrepreneurs and investors are
meeting regularly to drink coffee\, network and hopefully do deals. No more
of the old-school "please send us your executive summary before we'll even
talk to you". A place to find opportunities.\n\nWhere and when is it?\nHel
d every Wed morning from 8:30a-10:30am at Andala Coffee in Cambridge.\n\nWh
y?\nWell\, one of the things I've heard repeatedly is:\n1. investors are in
accessible\n2. entrepreneurs need regular physical space to meet\, not just
each other but also also network with investors and corporates\n\nWe all g
et an enormous amount from informal contact with both entrepreneurs and inv
estors.\n\nOn OpenCoffee: "What really stood out for me this week was the f
eeling of people clustering into short meetings and really getting work don
 e. OpenCoffee is deliberately during the day to encourage real professional
networking rather than social networking - so the vibe of people getting t
hings done and making connections is really excellent."\n\nRead the blog po

SUMMARY:Brazilian Film Series: Brazilians Like Myself ***FREE***
DESCRIPTION:The Boston/Cambridge Portuguese Language Meetup Group\n\nDirect
ed by Susana Rossberg (in person) \n\nAfter noticing that Brazilians were l
eaving their country in increasing numbers\, filmmaker Susana Rossberg made
the documentary "Brazilians Like Myself"\, in an attempt to understand the
phenomenon of migration. Brazil had always been a country to which one em
igrates\; she wanted to know why\, all of a sudden it became a country one
tries to flee. "Brazilians Like Myself" addresses issues that are universa
l\, and to which we are confronted every day. The encounter with a growing
\, and mostly undocumented\, Brazilian community allows us to bear witness
to its energy\, its vivacity\, and its diversity. This film attempts to wo
rk for a larger acceptance of foreigners in their land of exile. \n\n******

SUMMARY:Introduction to the Enneagram
DESCRIPTION:Exploring Healthy Lifestyles\n\nThe star-shaped Enneagram (Enne
a is Greek for "nine" and gram for type) is an amazingly accurate system of
understanding personality that groups human motivations and patterns of fe
eling\, thought and body experience into nine personality types. Each of us
has elements of all nine types\, but one is more dominant and automatic an
d is a stronger perceptual lens. This lens flavors how you see the world un
 iquely and therefore\, to a large degree\, how you think\, feel\, and act a
utomatically. Being in a type is a great strength and gift but also has lim
its the range of possible ways to experience life.\n\nHerb uses his experti
se in the Enneagram to define your core type and explore how it limits your
perception and ability to see the world in the strengths of all nine types
. Herb can teach you to see the limited reality in your core filter or type
and expand to a greater understanding of options that each type provides.
\n\nUsing the Ennegram will result in:\n\n*Personal development and improve
 d self-esteem \n*Enhanced communication skills \n*Self acceptance and self
 confidence \n*Conflict-resolution \n*Improved relationships \n*Increased em
pathy with more acceptance of personality differences \n*Clarity in underst

DESCRIPTION:Nerd Fun - Boston\n\nUpdate: 2/9/2010: I live on the South Shor
e\, down in Brockton\, around 40 minutes south of Boston\, where the worst
of the storm is going to hit. I am supposed to be getting six to ten inches
of snow in my neck of the woods. I think I am not going to be able to make
this event. Feel free to group up in the lobby\, and head upstairs at 6:30
pm to wait in line for the doors to open up. You can tell the people handi
ng out the tickets that you are with the Meetup group and want to hand tick
ets out to fello Nerd Fun people. \n\nI am going to have to skip this one.
It's going to be tough enough getting home in the traffic from Braintree\,
then shovelling my family then myself out. \n\n-T.J. Maher\n\n\n\n\nFrom th
 e Museum of Science website:\nhttp://www.mos.org/events_activities/lectures
&d=4189\n\nLocation: Cahners Theater\n\n"You may not know Doug Roble's name
\, but you've probably seen his work. As creative director of software at t
he Academy Award®-winning visual effects studio Digital Domain\, Roble deve
loped the technologies used to create the visual effects in 2012 and many o
f Hollywood's most popular films. \n\n"Join us to hear about the technologi
es that have earned Roble two Academy Awards: a 3-D tracking software that
helps artists determine where to fit graphics into images that have been fi
lmed\, and a fluid simulation system used to create the watery wonders of P
irates of the Caribbean: At World's End and The Day After Tomorrow. Hear ho
w Roble's software was integral to the success of these and many other bloc
kbusters. \n\n"Seating is limited. Seating passes are available to the gene
ral public in the Museum lobby beginning at 5:45 p.m. on the evening of the
program\; first come\, first served. Museum members may reserve a limited
number of seating passes in advance by calling between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p
.m. on Monday and Tuesday the week of the program only: 617-589-3169". \n\n
\nWhere to Meet:\n\nThe Museum of Science is going to put aside 20 Will Cal
l tickets for T.J. Maher to pick up for our group. T.J. should be standing
in the front lobby by 5:50 pm if you want to grab a ticket\, or if you are
a Museum of Science member\, you can reserve your own tickets if you wish.
Although the doors will not open until 6:45 pm for the general seating\, by
6:30 pm they will allow a few of us to go upstairs and reserve seats for o
ur group. \n\nT.J. Maher is 5 foot 7\, with short brown hair\, blue eyes\,
a "Hello My Name is T.J." nametag\, and a red MEETUP sign attached to his
black messenger bag. \n\nAlumni Highlight\, Ohio State University: Doug Rob
 le M.S.’87 and Ph.D. ’92\, computer science and engineering:\nhttp://engine
 ering.osu.edu/nie/article.php?e=803&s=5&a=2\n\n"When a 14-year-old Doug Rob
le saw “Star Wars” in 1977\, he knew creating movie magic was what he wante
d to do with the rest of his life.\n\n"What he never could have imagined\,
however\, happened more than three decades after that childhood dream. Earl
y this year\, the computer science and engineering alumnus accepted his sec
ond award from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences\, this time
for developing a software tool that allows graphic artists in the movie ind
ustry to create surging water effects.\n\n"His fluid simulator software was
featured in 'The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring\,' 'The Day
After Tomorrow' and 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End'\n\n" 'For a
geek like me\, this is the ultimate job\,' says Roble\, who is creative di
rector of software for Digital Domain in Venice\, Calif. 'You have impressi
ve software engineers\, mathematicians and creative people sitting next to
fantastic artists\, and they can take the tools you create anddo fabulous t
hings with them'.\n\n"This summer\, Roble was honored once again by being i
nvited to be a member of the visual effects branch of the academy\, which r
equires members to have eight years of working in the industry and experien
ce working in a supervisory role in the making of films\, Roble explains.\n
\n" 'It’s a very exclusive club\, and it’s great fun participating in acade
my stuff with people I’ve heard about all my life. It’s the ultimate if you
’re into movies\, and I am very much into movies!' Roble says.\n\n"After re
ceiving his doctorate from Ohio State\, Roble was immediately hired by Digi
tal Domain as a software engineer. He expanded on his dissertation work to
develop the TRACK system for camera position calculation and scene reconstr
uction. It essentially helps artists analyze filmed images tobetter determi
ne where to add graphics".\n\nAbout Digital Domain\, according to Wikipedia

are the first words to greet attractive Sylvia Barrett. There's a special h
appiness in walking into the still-empty classroom and for the first time w
riting her name on the blackboard. Students pour into the classroom&#65533\
 ;cautious\, testing\, challenging. Simultaneously\, there's a blizzard of p
 aperwork\, warnings\, contradictory orders\, indecipherable instructions. F
rantic\, Sylvia begins to fear she doesn't even understand the language. An
experienced teacher translates: "Keep on file in numerical order" means th
row in wastebasket. "Let it be a challenge" means you're stuck with it. "In
terpersonal relationships" means a fight between kids. And "It has come to
my attention" means you're in trouble. Soon Sylvia finds herself the most i
nvolved person in the school&#65533\;involved in the start of a romance and
  in a near war with a discipline-over-everything administrator\, but\, most
of all\, involved in the unexpected\, sometimes heartbreaking problems of
 her students. \n\nLawrence \, MA 01840 - USA\n\nWednesday\, February 10 a

DESCRIPTION:Nerd Fun - Boston\n\nIt's time for another series of FREE class
ical music concerts!\n\nThis evening's program features Boston Symphony Orc
hestra Assistant Conductor Julian Kuerti as he returns to conduct the NEC P
hilharmonia.\n\nThe NEC piano department's celebration of the Chopin bicent
ennial continues with a performance of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 1 in E M
 inor\, Op. 11. Lu Shen '11 M.M.\, a student of Alexander Korsantia\, is the
soloist. \n\nAlso on this program: Bartók and Stravinsky. These pieces ar
e a little more modern and atonal than the \nChopin\, but seem interesting
on first listen (see below.) (To my ear\, the Stravinsky has a lot in commo
n with his Rite of Spring.) For more details about the concert\, go to htt
p://necmusic.edu/nec-philharmonia-kuerti\n\nThe concert starts at 8pm\, but
let's meet up at 7:30\, so the group has a chance to get good seats and so
cialize before the concert. Tonight I will try to sit either as high up on
the left side of the main floor as possible or in the left-middle balcony
section if it's open\, since it affords a good view of the orchestra\, and
the pianist's hands.\n\nDirections to Jordan Hall:\nThe hall is located at
the corner of Huntington and Gainsborough streets\, about a block south of
the Symphony T stop on the Green Line. The main entrance is reached from G
 ainsborough Street.\n\n\nThis evening's program will include:\n\n\n Chopin'

SUMMARY:Dance Freedom for February 10
DESCRIPTION:Dance Freedom / Dance Friday\n\nDance Freedom's format is essen
tially the same every Wednesday night. Around 6:30 pm people who have volu
nteered to setup the room meet and are instructed by a setup coordinator as
to where what and how to setup for the dance. The first half DJ and Facil
itator for the night usually chip in too. \n\nAt 7:30 pm the setup is compl
ete and the dance has officially started. First there is a warm-up session
which last until around 7:50 pm. The warm-up session frequently consists
of soft DJ music and there is very little dancing. Then the Facilitator fo
r the night gets everyone together for the first dance. Everyone gathers a
round a centerpiece and holds hands and dances around to soft music for a s
ong. That's when the First half of the DJ dance begins. \n\nAround 8:50 p
m The first half is complete and everyone gathers around again and sits. T
his part of the night is called the Middle and it usually lasts about a hal
f hour. This is an opportunity for introductions and community announcemen
ts to happen. Usually there is also a "Middle" which consists of a volunte
ered artistic performance from someone in the community. \n\nOnce the annou
ncements and/or Middle performance is over\, at around 9:20 pm. The Facili
tator asks the dancers to stand and she leads them in another circle dance
to open up the Second half of dancing. \n\nThe second half of dancing lasts
until around 10:25 pm\, at which point there is one final circle dance to
complete the night. The dancers are always encouraged to help take-down at
this point so that we can be out of the space by 11PM.\n\nFor more inform

SUMMARY:Drinks before LAFF YOUR PANTS OFF
DESCRIPTION:The Boston Burlesque & Cabaret Meetup Group\n\nResponse to this
meet-up has been pretty lukewarm. I've been running it a couple of years
now\, and we never get more than 2 or 3 people at an event. I'd love to se
e 10 people at this one! What do you all say? Bring a friend for a drink an
d a show!\n\nThe Boston Babydolls monthly comedy show LAFF YOUR PANTS OFF i
 s at ImprovBoston (40 Prospect St.) at 10pm on Wednesday\, Feb. 10\n\nHow a
bout we meet at The Enormous Room at 8:30pm for drinks and snacks before he
ading over to the show? The Enormous Room is great for a little bite or a f
 ull meal\, it's a funky space\, and -- at that hour -- shouldn't be too cro
wded. Plus\, it's just a couple of blocks away from ImprovBoston.\n\nCambr

Dr. Joseph Warren. In 1773 5\,000 people met in the Meeting House to debat
e British taxation\, and after the meeting a group raided a nearby tea ship
in what became known as the Boston Tea Party.\n\n" Old South Meeting House
was almost destroyed in the Great Boston Fire of 1872\, and the congregati

 ing\nThursday\, February 11\, 2010 at 7pm\n\nHelvetica (2007)\nDirected & P
roduced by Gary Hustwit\nhttp://www.helveticafilm.com/\n\nHelvetica is a do
cumentary film about typography\, graphic design and global visual culture.
It looks at the proliferation of one typeface as part of a larger conversa
tion about the way type affects our lives. An exploration of urban spaces a
nd the type that inhabits them\, Helvetica\, invites us to take a second lo
ok at the thousands of words we see every day.\n\nIn Helvetica\, include so
me of the most illustrious and innovative names in the design world: Erick
 Spiekermann\, Matthew Carter\, Massimo Vignelli\, Wim Crouwel\, Hermann Zap
 t\, Neville Brody\, Stefan Sagmeister\, Michael Bierut\, David Carson\, Pau
la Scher\, Jonathan Hoefler\, Experimental Jetset\, and Lars Muller\, among
st so many others. \n\nUpcoming Events:\n(TBA)\n\nTom Dowd & The Language o
 f Music (2003)\nA film by Mark Moorann\nhttp://www.thelanguageofmusic.com/\
n\n(From NPR's "Weekend Edition Interview") \nA man who seemingly fit many
lives into one lifetime\, Tom Dowd was born on October 20\, 1925 in New Yor
k City. At a young age he excelled in mathematics and physics\, leading to
his work from the ages of 16 to 20 on the Manhattan Project at Columbia Uni
versity. In 1946\, as a sergeant in the Army Corps of Engineers\, he oversa
w a team of radiation detection specialists at the atomic bomb tests in Bik
ini Atoll. After his discharge from Army\, he soon began applying his scien
ce background to help revolutionize the process of recording music. While w
orking for Atlantic Records\, his pioneering work in binaural stereo record
ing\, and later his design of the eight-track console\, modernized the reco
rding industry. \n \n\nTom Dowd produced and engineered timeless records f
or artists including Ray Charles\, Aretha Franklin\, Otis Redding\, John Co
 ltrane\, Dizzy Gillespie\, Thelonius Monk\, Cream\, Rod Stewart\, Lynyrd Sk
ynyrd\, The Allman Brothers Band\, Dusty Springfield and countless other ce
lebrated musicians. Dowd also formed both strong professional and personal
relationships with many of these artists\, including Eric Clapton\, startin
g with Cream and leading to their working partnership on Layla and Other As
sorted Loves Songs and collaborations on several of Clapton's finest solo a
lbums. \n\nIn tribute to one of the greatest names in music (October 20\, 1
 925 - October 27\, 2002) forever will be remembered.\n\nLittle Dieter Needs
to Fly (1997)\nA film by Werner Herzog\n\n(Source: Wikipedia.org)\nHerzog
found a kindred spirit in German-American Navy pilot and Vietnam veteran\,
Dieter Dengler. Like Herzog\, Dengler grew up in a Germany reduced to rubbl
e by World War II. Dengler's stories of hunger and deprivation in the years
after the war echo similar stories from Herzog's past. Dengler recounts an
early memory of Allied fighter-bombers destroying his village in which he
saw one of the pilots and knew that he too wanted to be a pilot. At 18\, th
en\, Dengler emigrated to America. He served a 2-year enlistment in the Air
Force\, but was frustratingly unable to gain a pilot's slot in that servic
 e. After leaving the Air Force\, Dengler attended college and then joined t
he Navy. After completing flight training\, he was assigned as an A-1 Skyra
ider pilot in Attack Squadron 65 on the USS Constellation.\n\nIn 1966\, Den
gler served aboard the USS Ranger (CV-61) with VA-145 (Attack Squadron 145)
. At the time\, the squadron was equipped with the Douglas AD-6/A-1H Skyrai
der\, a single engine\, propeller driven attack plane. On the morning of 1
February\, Lt. Dengler launched from the Ranger with three other aircraft o
n an interdiction mission near the Laotian border. Visibility was poor due
to weather\, and upon rolling in on the target\, Lt. Dengler and the remain
der of his flight lost sight of one another. Dengler was the last man in an
d was hit by anti-aircraft fire. He was forced to crash-land his Skyraider
in Laos.\n\nDengler was taken prisoner by the Pathet Lao\, before being tur
ned over to soldiers of the Army of North Vietnam. After a period of tortur
e and starvation chained to the bottom of a bamboo cage\, Dengler escaped.
The bulk of the film consists of footage from a trip Herzog took with Dengl
er back to Laos and Thailand to recreate his ordeal. Herzog hired locals to
play the part of his captors and had Dengler retrace his steps while descr
ibing his experiences.\n\nOut-of-Print Film Festival\nFounder\, Daniel Berm
an\n(TBA)\n\nIn the summer wanted to open a gathering of films that have fo
und there way to that magnificent film reel in the sky (honestly\, don't ha
ve all of the details edged in stone yet) but thinking about my own innovat
ive film festival. Recently\, taking a glance at the Criterion Collection a
nd noticed at least a dozen memorable contemporary works that no longer on
VHS or DVD. In one instant\, it came to me in a flash an Out-of-Print Film
Festival that remembers movies you've seen once but never again\, here is y
our second opportunity. At some point in a filmgoers life they experience s
omething (now not just anyone can just know unless they are a film fanatic)
. You've seen a movie\, you get up from your seat\, and you come to the rea
lization that you have to see that again\, but never get around to doing ju
st that. Well\, 'Out-of-Print' takes these outstanding pictures and brings
them back from out of nostalgia to the bright lights of the big screen. \n\
nThe Cult of the Suicide Bomber (2005)\nRobert Baer\nhttp://www.disinfo.com
\n\nModern-day suicide bombers who strike fear into the heart of Western ci
ties are a relatively recent phenomenon. The Cult of the Suicide Bomber rev
eals the secret history of the suicide bomber\, from the child martyrs of t
he Iran-Iraq war\, the truck bombers in southern Lebanon\, to the young men
and women who now strap explosives to their and calmly blow up themselves
and hundreds of others in the streets of the Middle East.\n\nFormer CIA spy
\, Robert Baer\, returns to his former center of operations\, the Middle Ea
st\, to trace the origins of the modern day bomber. There is no good news h
ere for the fearful and uncertain in the west\, but Baer does present a cle
ar landscape of where and how the "pathological virus" has thrived and how
the notions of honorand glory emerged.\n\nIn this groundbreaking documentar
y\, Baer reveals the fascinating truth of the world's first suicide bomber\
, 13-year-old Hossein Fahmideh - who was martyred in the Iran-Iraq war and
is now a hero in Iran - and visits his highly decorated grave in the gravey
ard of martyrs just outside Tehran. \n\nGala Event\nA Banner Year for Indep

he highly popular movie program A Time to Review I got to sit down with the
former Director of the Film Study Center at Harvard University from (1957

his work is filming life from ancient cultures. In the 1970's\, he hosted a
