SUMMARY:Quabbin Reservoir - The best kept secret in Massachusetts
DESCRIPTION:Twisted Touring\n\nThe best kept secret in Massachusetts...\n \
nThis is by far and away my favorite part of the state. Cape Cod has its sa
ndy dunes\, Cape Ann the quaintness of the Maine seashore\, and the Berkshi
res the backroads charm of Vermont. However\, if you are looking for a plac
e to experience Massachusetts as a wilderness area\, I highly suggest that
you spend some time in and around the Quabbin Reservoir. If you look at a m
ap of the state\, and see an enormous fingerlike lake in the middle of it\,
that is the Quabbin. Bordered today by intriguing small towns such as Ware
\, New Salem\, and Hardwick\, there are plenty of woods\, meadows\, and hil
lscapes to explore.\n\n\nDuring the 1920's it became apparent that Eastern
Massachusetts did not have a large enough water supply to satisfy its growi
ng needs for water. Thirsty Eastern Massachusetts inhabitants looked westw
ard to the Swift River 100 miles away. The Swift River flowed through some
small towns nestled in the Swift River valley. Through a series of "buyouts
" the inhabitants of these towns were tossed out of their homes in preparat
ion for construction of a reservoir. \n \nHouses were bulldozed\, bodies du
g up (except for Native Americans)\, factories demolished and millions acre
s of trees were cut down. Four towns: Dana\, Enfield\, Greenwich and Presco
tt were "discontinued" and seven other towns were altered. A half mile lon
g dam was built on the Swift River in Belchertown MA\, and one of the longe
st tunnels in the world was constructed to carry the water a hundred miles
to the east. \n\nFlooding of the valley started in mid August 1939 and in 1
946 the reservior was filled to capacity ( 412 billion gallons.) Nearly 40
square miles were covered with water. The new reservoir was named after a N
ative American chief of a local tribe. The chief's name was Nani-Quaben. Th
e name\, which was given to a hill in Enfield and a lake in Greenwich means
  " well watered place."\n \n \nFishing Quabbin is a wonderful experience. I
ts beauty and relative solitude contribute greatly to the already wonderful
pastime of fishing. Fish species include\, Largemouth and Smallmouth bass\
 , Lake Trout\, Salmon\, Chain Pickerel\, White and Yellow Perch\, Crappie\,
Rock Bass\, Bluegill\, and Bullhead. Action can be outstanding especially
in Spring when the Smallies are in pre-spawn.\n\nAuburndale\, MA 02466 - U

SUMMARY:Cat Rock Park
DESCRIPTION:Merry Mutts Meet Up of the North Shore\n\nAt the suggestion of
Merry Mutt mom Alison\, let's go to Cat Rock! The two highlights here are
Cat Rock Hill and Hobbs Pond. The hill towers over the park\, providing gr
and views of Weston and Waltham to the east. The short climb to the top is
strenuous\, so we'll attack that first while we have energy. At the top\,
we'll find the town's water tank and plenty of smells for our dogs to snif
 f. Then we'll head back down the hill and take one of the trails into the
woods\; they all lead to Hobbs Pond after about half a mile. The water is
clean and cool and the swimming hole is surrounded by woods. On the wester
n shore there's a grassy field\, a good place to dry off and romp in the su
 nshine.\n\nDIRECTIONS:\nFrom I-95/Route 128\, take Exit 28 to Boston Post R
 oad/Route 20 West.\nTurn right on School Street\nRight on Church Street\nLe

SUMMARY:Lexington - Westford /The Morning After. 48 Miles
DESCRIPTION:Train for a Century - Bicycling Meetup\n\nGo easy on the July 4
th festivities\, because the morning after is going to be harsh. The hills
are going to be brutal on this ride. \n\nThis ride goes through some of my
favorite areas to ride through because it goes along some very quiet roads
which go by horse farms\, pastures and quiet streets in Concord\, Carlisle
and Westford that are very typical of old New England towns. We will have
to take some major routes to connect to some of the quieter areas but it wi
ll overall be a very enjoyable ride. \n\nWe will start at Dunkin Donuts lo
cated at the fork of Mass Ave and Woburn St. which is just outside of Lexin
gton center. Dunkins is directly on the Minuteman trail so those of you who
live somewhere along the trail can ride straight to our meeting spot if yo
u choose. From Dunkins we will work our way to Route 2A/Marrett Rd and foll
ow 2A to the back roads that will take us past the edge of Hanscom AFB\, le
ading into Concord center\, through the scenic back roads of Carlisle\, Wes
tford and N. Chelmsford. From N. Chelmsford we will pick up route 4 and tha
t will take us to the other side of Carlisle into Bedford where we will pic
k up the Minuteman trail for the last few miles that will bring us back to
our starting point. \n\nWe will go at a fairly moderate pace around 15 mph
\, the terrain is going to be hilly at times with tough hills between Westf
ord and Chelmsford so have your climbing legs ready! \n\nThere are food/ba
throom stops at our meeting spot\, along the way in Concord center\, Wesfor
d\, N. Chelmsford\, Chelmsford and Bedford. Basically in just about every t
own we will be riding through. \n\nParking: There is a small public parkin
g lot across the street to the left of Dunkins \n\nFeel free to get in touc
h with me if there are any questions at all. \n\nThis is an ideal ride for
anyone who is not quite ready to ride a full century but ready to push them
selves a bit to get ready for the next level. Never the less\, let's have a
an awesome ride and have a freakin blast! Can't wait to see you all there!

DESCRIPTION:The Boston Middi Mutts Meetup Group\n\nPlease join us for our m

 *********************************************\n\nEach month going forward\,
I will be placing a donation box out for participants of Meet-up to donate
. In addition\, I will have tags made that will ask for your name and a do
g-related non-profit to make the donation to. \n\nAt the end of each month\
, the total money raised from all the meet-up groups held at DoggieDay wil
l be donated to a charity picked at the end of each month. The money will
be donated on behalf of the person suggesting the group it be donated to.\n
\nYou can nominate any dog-related non-profit\, but we were hoping to bring
more awareness to and raise money for smaller non-profits\, who do not rec
eive grants from the government or large donations throughout the year. Th

work at one\, please nominate them\; if you volunteer at one\, even just o

are always happy to have you in our home.\n\n“Dogs are not our whole life\,

SUMMARY:Three Monkeys
DESCRIPTION:Boston International/Arthouse Movie Meetup Group\n\nThe followi
 ng synopsis is from the MFA website:\n\nThree Monkeys\n3:40 — 5:30 pm \nSun
 day\, July 5\, 2009 \nRemis Auditorium\n\nThree Monkeys by Nuri Bilge Ceyla
n (2008\, 109 min.). From the director of Climates and Distant\, Nuri Bilge
Ceylan's Three Monkeys centers on a family's struggle to cover up the trut
h after a rising politician convinces his driver to take the blame for a hi
t and run. The film has all the makings of a noir-style psychological thril
 ler--resentment\, adultery\, murder\, and cynicism--but retains Ceylan's tr
 ademark striking cinematography\, meditative shots\, elliptical intrigue\,
and bleak tone. "No one working in cinema today can suggest an interior psy
chological state\, solely through the camera's external observation of an u
nmoving character\, as well as Ceylan can" (Peter Brunette\, Hollywood Repo
rter). In Turkish with English subtitles. \n \nFrom the Rotten Tomatoes sit
e comes this perspective: \nConsensus: Exploring the effects of a family's
dealings with an underhanded politician\, this crime drama avoids showing t
he violent outcomes of its characters' misdeeds\, resulting in a lingeringl
 y potent film.\n\nBelow is a link to a more in-depth review:\n\nhttp://movi
es.nytimes.com/2009/05/01/movies/01monk.html\n \nIf you would like to go to
the restaurant afterwards for a discussion\, please submit your RSVP. We
will go some place where we can get the food quickly since it will be a Sun
day evening. Hope to see you there.\nSusan\n\nBoston\, MA 02115 - USA\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Gourmet Tasters Group\n\nI've bounced a number of ideas off gro
up members for a July 5th meetup and this is the one that the most people l
iked\, so let's give it a shot! For me\, mojitos are the perfect summer dr
ink. . . that combination of mint and lime with rum and soda or seltzer is
the ultimate refresher. But there's one problem. With all that rum\, you ca
n't drink too many of them and still make sense! So my version is heavy on
the lime and mint\, but light on the rum. . . probably about half the alco
hol content you'd expect. Just the thing to drink with barbecued chicken in
a mojito-flavored marinade! \n\nWe'll supply the mojito fixings\, the chic
ken\, all serving accountrements\, and a key lime pie for dessert. Hope thi
s inspires others to concoct side dishes\, salads\, etc. that will harmoniz
e or contrast with the flavors. Please let us know what you plan to bring w

SUMMARY:Care packages for soldiers
DESCRIPTION:The Boston Volunteer Meetup. Who else likes to help others?\n\n
Come learn about care packages for soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan!\n\nIn
the past year\, my volunteers and I have sent out 106 care packages to sold
iers in Iraq and Afghanistan.\nPeople donate food and drink items\, toiletr
 ies\, bootlaces\, bug spray\, foot powder--all the items soldiers need\, bu
t are hard to get when they're on the front lines. My volunteers then come
together to assemble the goods into large\, comprehensive care packages\,
that are then mailed to specific soldiers.\n\nI'm looking for new people to
help out with the care packages. In particular\, I need people to run don
ation drives at their work places\, schools\, houses of worship\, book club
 s\, gym--any place you frequent. It's easy to run a drive (well\, pretty e
asy...)\, and then you (and your donors\, if they're interested) can also h
elp assemble the goods into complete care packages. (Or\, you may just wan
t to donate cash/goods yourself\, or write a letter to be included in the c
are packages--any support is appreciated!)\n\nIf you're interested in learn
ing more\, I'll be available this Sunday\, July 5th\, at 5pm\, in JP Licks
in Jamaica Plain. \n\nIf you can't make this weekend\, but are interested i
 n learning more\, contact me. \nLearn more at: http://www.rebeccakushner.n
et/soldiers/ --you can see photos of assembly parties\, see a list of don
ors (would love some corporate donors!)\, and see photos/letters from soldi
ers and their families.\n\nAlso see: http://www.rebeccakushner.net/soldier

SUMMARY:Movies/Showcase in Randolph
DESCRIPTION:The Brockton/South Shore Singles Meetup Group\n\nAhhhh...Now I
have put some thought into this one....Okay\, okay..I try to put thought in
to the fun things we can do as a group.\n\nSooooo..I was thinking.. a nice
way to end July 4th weekend would be to see a movie. What do you think?\n\
nWell\, coming from me\; after all those burgers\, hotdogs\, drinks (includ
ing the alcohol ones)..etc.. I was thinking a nice relaxing meetup would be
the movies. Plus\, you may have group withdrawals if I don't plan somethi
ng. \n\nI was thinking we could meet at Rick's Cafe again and then head to
the movies. For all of you that is not familiar to this area\, Rick's is r
ight next to the theatre (or theater-however it is spelled). Anyway\, yo
u can park there for both Rick's and the movies. \n\nI have no idea what t
o put for a movie yet.. I was just browsing the movies that will be coming
out around then. \n\nWhy don't we do this? \n\nTell me if your interested
in seeing a movie this night and in the descripton you put what movie you
would be interested in seeing. If you don't really care what movie\, but w
ant to come-then leave it blank. Then we can decide from there...\n\nAny i

  history\, RumBa pays tribute to a by-gone era. Ironically\, RumBa - which
has nothing to do with the famous Latin dance “the Rumba” - is a Bostonian’
s classic pronunciation of “Rum Bar” (the ‘R’ in ‘Bar’ being silent). Rum B
ar simply evolved to RumBa.\n\nThe event\nRumBa will be offering a mojito m
aking class where guests will receive a brief history and overview on this
refreshing summer drink followed by hands-on instruction on making mojitos
that includes both a traditional mojito and a flavored mojito. Included in
the cost of the class are two moijtos\, a selection of exotic appetizers\,
a take-home muddler and mojito recipes.\n\nThe mojito making class will tak
