SUMMARY:Movie Night: Pirate Radio
DESCRIPTION:The Washington\, DC Awesome Kickball and Social Meetup Group\n\
nWe've got 60 screener tickets to PIRATE RADIO on Thursday\, November 12th
at 6:00pm at AMC Mazzia Gallerie in Friendship Heights. You've got to get t
here no later than 6:00pm (5:30pm would be better) in order to get in to se
e the movie (which starts at 7:00pm). Entry isn't guaranteed\, so get there
\, hop in line\, and someone with a NAKID shirt will be along shortly to gi
ve you a screener ticket! Fall and Winter NAKIDs only are allowed to this e
vent.\n\nIf you RSVP Yes and don't show\, you will no longer be allowed at
any NAKID event for a year.\n\nPIRATE RADIO is the newest ensemble comedy f
rom filmmaker Richard Curtis (screenwriter of Four Weddings and a Funeral a
nd Notting Hill\, and writer/director of Love Actually)\, spinning the irre
verent yet fact-based tale of a seafaring band of rogue rock and roll deeja
ys whose “pirate radio” captivated and inspired 1960s Britain. Playing the
music that rocked a nation and a decade\, the group boldly and hilariously
defies the government that tries to shut them down.\n\nBroadcasting live 24
/7 from an old tanker anchored in the middle of the North Sea (just beyond
British jurisdiction)\, Radio Rock sends out a vibrant and unifying signal
to millions across the nation\, ranging in age from wide-eyed pre-teens sec
retly tuning in long past their bedtimes to everyday people in need of a mu
sical pick-me-up. The Radio Rock roster\, overseen by unflappable station o
wner (and ship’s captain) Quentin (Bill Nighy)\, includes a risk-prone Amer
ican known only as The Count (Philip Seymour Hoffman)\; mystic deejay royal
ty Gavin (Rhys Ifans)\; slyly amorous Dave (Nick Frost)\; idiosyncratic New
Zealander Angus (Rhys Darby)\; the rarely seen Bob (Ralph Brown)\; the apt
ly named Thick Kevin (Tom Brooke)\; lovelorn Simon (Chris O’Dowd)\; ladies’
magnet Mark (Tom Wisdom)\; shy Harold (Ike Hamilton)\; reporter News John
(Will Adamsdale)\; and lesbian ship’s cook Felicity (Katherine Parkinson).
One night in 1966\, Quentin’s teenaged godson Carl (Tom Sturridge) comes ab
oard. While Carl harbors romantic aspirations that he hopes will be fulfill
ed during one of the biweekly visits by Radio Rock’s prettiest fans\, he al
so hopes to find out more about his long-absent father…\n\nAs the ship sails on and rocks out\, what Carl and the freewheeling\, f
ree-loving Radio Rock gang don’t know is that back in London\, landlocked g
overnment minister Dormandy (Kenneth Branagh) has embarked on a vehement cr
usade to silence their signal – permanently. To stay afloat and keep their
devoted audience plugged in\, the crew will have to band together and trust
in the power of music like never before.\n\nPIRATE RADIO will open nationw
ide on Friday\, November 13th.\nIt is rated R with a running time of approx
imately 120 minutes.\n\nTo view the trailer visit: http://www.focusfeatures

SUMMARY:Second Thursday of the Month Euchre Night
DESCRIPTION:The Alexandria Euchre Meetup Group\n\nWhy come out tonight? Be
cause you need to practice before heading home for the holidays!! If you ha
ve been lurking\, consider coming. The people change every month and the c
onversation flows easily over cards and drinks.\n\nWe are back at my house
for another evening of euchre. Feel free to bring a beverage of your choice
to share. If you want to bring a snack to share that is always welcome. An
ything goes and if you decide to bring a peach tart\, the group will probab
 ly not have any leftovers.\n\nPlease don't be a "no-show." I work hard to e
nsure we end up with the right numbers and when you don't show\, it means t
hat we have to rotate people. Ok\, maybe I don't work hard\, but we all wan
t to play 4-handed. If you sign-up\, and don't show\, then we either have
to rotate people or play 2 or 3 handed. It's not quite the same. \n\nWith
the flu season upon us\, please don't come if you are sick. We have to do
our part to stop the spread of H1N1. It is best to be a "no-show" and sen
d me an e-mail then to pass the flu on to others. \n\nThe house is metro a

, was Sarah jetzt braucht.
Endlich be
greift sie\, was die Familie ihr hartnäckig ans Herz legen möchte: Man soll

SUMMARY:Enterprise Applications and Architectures
DESCRIPTION:The Washington Semantic Web Meetup\n\nThis meetup will showcase
two exciting applications of semantic enterprise technologies. First\, Cor
y Casanave and Tom Digre of Model Driven Solutions will demonstrate publish
ing models and architectures as linked open data (LOD). This will be follow
ed with a case study and demo by Greg Bardwell of Innovative Query\, on Sem
antic Technology and Enterprise Applications.\n\nPublishing models and arch
itectures as LOD\n\nThis talk will focus on the business case and technolog
y support for publishing models and architectures as linked open data (LOD)
. The business case for this is that architectures are more valuable when t
hey are visible\, shared and linked. Publishing government architectural d
ata supports the president’s open government initiative in support of visib
ility\, collaboration and participation. Publishing as LOD fits with the e
merging thinking on the best way for government data to be published in an
accessible\, web based\, linkable and query able form based on standards.\n
\nSome background on how to leverage LOD for government architectures can b
e found in the ISWC presentation\, here: http://lib.modeldriven.org/MDLibra
 ry/trunk/Pub/Presentations/ISWC_OpenGovernmentArchitectures.ppt\n\nGIVE US
YOUR MODELS! If you will provide ModelDriven.org with your XMI or RDF base
d models with a license to publish the model data on the internet\, we will
publish them as part of our demonstration architectural data server at no
charge. This data could then also be published on data.gov or any other da
ta registry. Our EKB server is capable of publishing any XMI file (UML\, X
ML-Schema\, BPMN\, SoaML\, Etc) as LOD. More information on the EKB projec
t can be found here: http://portal.modeldriven.org/project/EKB\n\nWe will t
hen organize these models for presentation as data (with web page access as
well) on the demonstration server.\n\nSpeakers - Part 1\n\nCory Casanave (
Bio available soon)\n\nTom Tigre (Bio available soon)\n\nSemantic Technolog
y and Enterprise Applications\n\nThis talk will discuss how semantic techno
logy will be applied to a case within Air Force Acquisitions to build a Sem
antic Business Intelligence (SBI) system for their unstructured data. (http
 ://www.innovativequery.com/Case_Studies/index.html).\n\nTo start\, Innovati
ve Query will briefly present IQeXplore – a Semantic application platform w
ith tools and API for search/discovery\, visualization\, and collaboration.
This software is based on W3C standards and includes connectors to enterpr
ise data sources\, Natural Language Processing (NLP)\, semantic analysis wi
 th custom ontologies\, enterprise search integration\, full-text search\, c
ollaboration\, as well as UI for semantic discovery/navigation and visualiz
ation features. \n\nFor the Air Force\, as with any organization\, using a
nd getting the value out of 100+ data repositories is a timely and costly t
ask. Their goal is simple…. to make their vast amounts of unstructured text content understandable an
d to connect and explore unstructured information from contractual document
s with other data. Air Force Acquisitions understood they needed to go beyo
nd the ability to do simple keyword search and clustering to achieve their
goal. In short\, the Air Force wants to build a Semantic Business Intellige
nce (SBI) system incorporating their unstructured content with the ability
to identify and visualize relationships between people\, contracts\, organi
zations\, etc and the related projects\, reports\, and budgets.\n\nCome see
how use of semantic technology is solving real enterprise problems with a
linked open data approach within the military.\n\nSpeaker - Part 2\n\nGreg
 Bardwell\nFounder & CEO of Innovative Query\, Inc. \nhttp://www.innovativeq
uery.com/\n\nGreg Bardwell is a software executive and entrepreneur. He is
currently the founder and CEO of his second software company focusing on kn
owledge management and discovery tools being sold as an enterprise applicat
ion. He was the founder and CEO of an e-Learning company which he ran for 1
2 years. Prior to this he worked for six years for NASA and the Naval Resea
rch Laboratory. Greg holds an advanced degree in physics and a degree in co

SUMMARY:November DCRUG: Intro to Rails Models\, IP Law for Programers and C
 ode of Art
DESCRIPTION:DC Ruby Users Group\n\nContinuing the approach we started last
month\, we'll begin our meetings with a short introductory presentation on
Ruby and Rails -- no experience necessary -- before getting into the more h
ardcore topics.\n\nAnd\, as always\, we'll have an ample supply of free piz
za for all attendees\, so don't worry about eating dinner beforehand.\n\nHe
 re's the agenda:\n * Intro to Ruby and Ruby on Rails\, Part 2 -- I'll be
providing a gentle introduction to ActiveRecord\, the library through whic
h Ruby models are stored in your database\n * IP law for programmers: ND
 As\, non-competes\, copyrights\, patents\, trademarks\, etc. -- what every
developer needs to know about intellectual property\, presented by Aaron Ti
tus\n * We'll be closing with "Code of Art" a presentation on algorithm-
based visualizations\, using Ruby and Processing\n\nWe always are looking f
or presenters\, so if you have a topic or project on which you'd like to do
  a 15-minute presentation\, please email me at joe at intridea.com and I'll
add you to the list. If have presented before\, you are welcome to give a
presentation again. This is a great chance for some of you guys and gals li
ngering in the back of the room to share some of the cool things you are wo
rking on. Don't be shy -- you're among fellow geeks. :)\n\nAnd\, as always\
, we'll be heading around the corner to Post Pub\, for a beer or two after
the meeting\, to unwind and socialize with fellow techies.\n\nWashington\,

This is a weekly\, recurring activity\, only impeded by inclement weather\,
annual two week cleaning closings and acts of God\, as it were. So\, PLEAS

this site and scheduled events\, there is a regular crew of 8 to 24 player
s who show up\, week after week after week. So\, come on down and join us.
We have fans to keep players cool\, music to move to and general camaraderi
e\, all in all. If you have an iPOD\, bring it. We can hook it up to my spe
akers and blast away some tunes to play volleyball to.... \n\nSo\, check us
out and see if we are up to your personal playing standards. What have you
got to lose\, except a couple pounds and some sweat? You might actually ha
ve a good time...........\n\n\nHope to see you all out on the courts.......
..........our courts\, that is.\n\nNow\, if I could JUST find some players
to go out afterwards for a couple cold ones to rehydrate\, THAT would be lo
vely. There is a Peruvian chicken place about a mile away at Flower Hill
Shopping Center. IF we show up\, they will stay open later. THey close ar
ound 10 PM\, usually. The food is quite good. More RECENTLY\, we found a
new post volleyball watering hole\, Dunmor's Tavern. They are located les
s than a mile distant from Upper County CC. They have great fries\, excell
ent chicken wings\, decent Reuben sandwiches\, hearty salads\, decent selec
tion of beers\, half a dozen or more TVs for sports fans and pleasant waits
taff. They WILL stay open a bit later once they know that we are coming in
. Usually\, their kitchen closes between 930 and 10 PM. The bar stays ope
n until around midnight during the week.\n\nNOTICE: The house management wa
nts us to stop about 9:20 PM\, + or -\, to break it all down and put them a
way. We need to be out the door before 930 PM. Also\, ALL of you need to do
your part\, take down the nets and fold them\, carry the VB standards into
the store room\, lower the BB backboards\, lock the two storage rooms...\n
\nPLEASE pitch in...............or the house mgmt. will move to curtail our
  time there\, earlier and earlier.\n\n\n\n\n\nSteverino\n\nGaithersburg\, M

SUMMARY:Bethesda Artwalk and Thai Jazz Dinner
DESCRIPTION:The Culture Club\n\nWe will meet at Waverly Street Gallery in B
ethesda - at around 6pm - for the monthly Artwalk\, visiting 4-5 galleries.
(We're doing this in conjunction with SingleVolunteers.) Making the Walk
extra special is that it's fotoweekdc\, so our last stop\, Washington Schoo
l of Photography\, will be very festive. And the town of Bethesda's own wa
lks have ended for the season giving us the "group" turf. Following the wa
lk\, at around 8:15\, we will head to Sala Thai where they have a large ups
tairs room for us and live jazz downstairs. Dishes are around $10\, so it i
s quite reasonable. It's important in this walk that you show interest in
the art and photos that you'll see. Gallery owners are wonderful people\,
but they expect a level of respect from visitors. If we do that simple thi
 ng\, we'll have an amazing\, low-cost evening of wine\, art\, food\, music
and great company. I also ask that you try to stay for dinner. The group b
onds well during the walk and it works best if most people come to dinner.
(Obviously\, things come up\, but I'll need to give the restaurant a numbe
r.) If you have any problems on day of\, call me at 703.338.7494. See yo

5/5/2/d/thumb_11121805.jpegRie's Bio: I've been involved with paranormal r
esearch for a number of years now\, both on my own and affiliated with grou
ps. Currently\, I am an investigator with Eastern Paranormal Research (EPR
 ) based out of Accokeek\, Maryland (http://www.easternparanormalresearch.co
m/)\, and I am the case manager for Paranormal Research and Investigation S
ociety of Maryland (PRISMd.) based out of Catonsville\, Maryland (www.freew
ebs.com/PRISMd).\n\nA combination of my love for American History and being
an avid reader of Stephen King since I was 8 years old is what fueled my c
uriosity and desire to learn more about the paranormal. Over the years\, I
have been lucky enough to work and meet some of the most known names in th
e field\, investigated a number of places that are historically significant
as well as help private homeowners understand what might be happening in t
heir dwellings\, and been able to network with some great investigators fro
m across the country. \n\nI was born and raised outside of Annapolis\, Mar
yland\, a location full of some of the earliest history of this country. I
have lived in various locations in Maryland as well as a short-time spent
in Georgia. Currently\, I reside in the suburbs between Baltimore and Anna
polis with my teenage son in a home that has a spirit of its own. My quest
for answers as taken me across the country to various locales where I have
collected a plethora of evidence of the supernatural\, including pictures\
, videos\, and EVPs. My desire to learn is never quenched and I am activel
y seeking out new locations to investigate.\n\nIn between investigations an
d writing\, I spend my free time volunteering at Point Lookout Lighthouse i
n Scotland\, Maryland. Located at the southern tip of Maryland's Western S
hore\, the lighthouse and surrounding park have a deep history and many doc
umented spirits that roam the ground. Home to a POW camp during the Civil
War\, the land has seen its share of atrocities and human suffering. Sever
al times throughout the year\, we allow the lighthouse to be investigated b
y groups that are interested in gathering their own evidence at "America's
Most Haunted Lighthouse". All monies raised by such events\, and others we
hold throughout the year\, go towards the preservation of the lighthouse.
For more information\, please visit http://www.pllps.org/. If you are int
erested in conducting an investigation of the lighthouse\, please click on
the "Visit" link on that page to review available dates and contact informa
 tion to arrange the event.\n\n\nhttp://photos1.meetupstatic.com/photos/even

SUMMARY:Singles Party: Four Minute "Speed Dating" w/ OPEN BAR
DESCRIPTION:The Things To Do® Singles Meetup Group\n\nFor our members in th
e 20s - 30s age range. \n\n**Please visit our official WEBSITE to sign up f
or this event**\n\n\nWhether you are looking for a potential new soul mate\
, new friends or just a good time\, join us as we re-present this exciting
Singles Party that attracts approximately 100-150 singles each time we host
it. Experience a dozen first dates in one evening as you join hundreds of
single young professionals for a chance to find romance in with TTD’s four
minute dating. And this time\, even if you do not get a match\, we have arr
anged for you to pass special messages to that special someone you may see
across the room! \n\nHere’s how it works: \n\nFOUR MINUTE DATING: Each atte
ndee is given a name tag with a TTD number on it as well as an index card o
n which they print their name\, TTD number and email address. For the first
hour\, we line the men and women up and rotate everyone every four minutes
so that each person gets the chance to meet about one dozen potential mate
 s. Each person then writes down the TTD number of anyone whom they would li
ke to see again and hands the cards to us. We sort through them\, and a few
days after the event\, we email any mutual matches. \n\nSECRET ADMIRER: Th
roughout the evening\, you may meet that special someone you want to send a
n additional message to. But\, either you did not quite make a match\, or y
ou did not have an opportunity to approach him/her. For the next three days
after the event\, you will have the opportunity to email events@thingstodo
DC.com asking us to help you - the secret admirer - make a connection. Simp
ly emails us: \n\n1) The number of the person (the number listed on their n
ame tag) \n2) Your email address \n3) A private message for that person \n\
nThough we will respect the person's privacy and not email you back their e
mail address or other contact information\, we will pass your email along (
with your email address and other contact info you provide) and let fate ta
ke over. \n\nThe OPEN BAR is from 9 pm to 10 pm. Following open bar\, stay
around all night for a huge dance party with some of Washington’s top DJs!\
 n\nSuggested Attire: Please dress to impress. No Hats\, T's\, Tank Tops\, J
 erseys\, Athletic Wear\, Boots or Sneakers. \n\nLocation: \nUltra Bar \n911

re is a whole game room full of them. \nNote: You are NOT required to play
any games. :)\n\nDave N' Busters is conveniently located near White Flint m

pay to exit. I will wait until 7 and then walk with the metro takers at 7
to the mall. It takes 10-15 min. to walk there. We will meet the car riders

the restaurant has really hit its stride blending elements of modern\, Fre
