SUMMARY:Class & Open Circle - Living Pagan
DESCRIPTION:The North Shore Witches Meetup\n\nIn reclaiming their ancient s
 piritual heritage\, Pagans are embracing the past and bringing it into the
 present. No longer is the Pagan religion only for academic studies. Nor a i
 s it a derogatory term to describe non-Christians. Once more Paganism is a
 positive\, spiritual\, living faith. As the world enters a post-Christian e
 poch and a somewhat post-rationalist period in western society we explore t
 he past and find answers for the present.\n\nTo truly walk a Pagan path\, m
 any people believe that their spirituality should be part of their daily li
 fe\, and not just something the observe once or twice a month. Here's where
  we'll talk about contemporary issues of interest to Pagans\, family and re
 lationships\, and how to live a magical life every day.\n\nHaverhill\, MA

 we select our answers and make our bids. It's the bidding that makes the g

 ur answer but we can only bid each score once\, manage your bidding well an
 d beat other teams even when you don't know many of the answers!\n\nOur anc

 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~\nOut of Fellini and Into ‘The Godfather\,’
  a Politician’s Life\n\nNY TIMES REVIEW By STEPHEN HOLDEN\nPublished: April
  24\, 2009 (Portions removed for space)\n\n“I don’t believe in chance\, I b
 elieve in the will of God.” That credo\, spoken in a dry\, dispassionate vo
 ice\, drops more than once from the mouth of Giulio Andreotti (Toni Servill
 o)\, the scandal-ridden seven-time Italian prime minister\, in Paolo Sorren
 tino’s flamboyant biographical fantasy\, “Il Divo.” \n\nA label once applie
 d to Julius Caesar\, Il Divo is only one of several popular nicknames for M
 r. Andreotti\, who entered the Italian political arena in the late 1940s an
 d is now 90. As the right-leaning leader of the country’s centrist Christia
 n Democratic party\, Mr. Andreotti\, elected to his first term as prime min
 ister in 1972\, has been called the Sphinx\, the Hunchback\, the Black Pope
  and Beelzebub. He was appointed a senator for life in 1991. \n\nIn explori
 ng Mr. Andreotti’s possible connections to a stream of political assassinat
 ions and to other killings made to look like suicides\, which began in the
 late 1970s and continued into the early ’90s\, “Il Divo” has the tone and s
 tyle of a blood-soaked comic opera. \n\nThe density of violent crime in thi
 s speculative history of skulduggery in high places equals that of “I\, Cla
 udius\,” “The Sopranos” and the “Godfather” movies. \n\nPoker-faced\, blink
 ing behind thick\, tortoiseshell glasses\, the distant traces of a smirk pl
 aying on his lips\, Mr. Andreotti sidles through the corridors of power lik
 e a shy undertaker\, his shoulders hunched\, his elbows clamped to his side
 s\, a security detail trailing him like a funeral cortege.\n\n“Il Divo” unf
 olds as a series of solo and choral set pieces that culminate in two arias.
  In the first\, a journalist interviewing Mr. Andreotti lays out the presum
 ed crimes and calls him either the most cunning criminal in the country who
  never got caught or the most persecuted man in the history of Italy. In th
 e second\, Mr. Andreotti imagines confessing his guilt to his wife\, Livia
 (Anna Bonaiuto)\; it is the only moment when his composure cracks. \n\nThe
 film\, which won the Jury Prize at last year’s Cannes festival\, has an uph
 ill battle in American theaters. Most of its real-life characters are unkno
 wn outside Italy\, and the complicated\, shadowy relationships among politi
 cians\, the Mafia and the Vatican are difficult to decipher. \n\nBut the fi
 lmmaking is sensational. From its bizarre opening image of the migraine-pro
 ne Mr. Andreotti with acupuncture needles stuck in his head — a picture of
 prime minister as human porcupine that could be out of a Fellini film — “Il
  Divo” is a tour de force of indelibly flashy imagery. The story begins wit
 h a spectacular montage of assassinations from the late 1970s to the early
 ’90s\; then\, one by one\, the sinister\, loyal-unto-death members of Mr. A
 ndreotti’s Christian Democratic faction are introduced. \n\nThe movie repea
 tedly and gleefully quotes from the “Godfather” trilogy\, especially Part 3
 . Although it dips back in time\, it concentrates on Mr. Andreotti’s later
 years and ends with his 1999 trial for associating with the Mafia. One of s
 everal brilliant set pieces shows the 1992 assassination of Salvo Lima (Gio
 rgio Colangeli)\, Mr. Andreotti’s Sicilian connection\, in a scene that int
 ercuts shots of Mr. Andreotti at the race track with the hit man on a motor
 cycle pursuing his prey. \n\nAlmost every shot in the film is a grand compo
 sition\, with heavy chiaroscuro and emotionally stirring music (a compendiu
 m of Sibelius\, Fauré\, Vivaldi and Saint-Saëns\, along with Beth Orton\, T
 eho Teardo and Trio’s “Da Da Da”). As operatic cinema\, it ranks alongside
 the best of Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola.\n(Portions removed fo
 r space)\n\nPortsmouth\, NH  03801 - USA\n\nTuesday\, July 7 at 7:15 PM\n\n
SUMMARY:Solar shower design and construction
DESCRIPTION:Permaculture Enthusiasts of Arundel and the Kennebunks\n\nIf yo
 u're like me\, the primary use for burning oil in our household during the
 summer is to heat water for showers.  Using an inexpensive solar shower  is
  a way to potentially reduce or eliminate the burning of fossil fuels in th
 tunity to participate in the design and construction of a solar shower!  \n
 \nThe workshop begins at 10:00 AM and runs until 5:00 PM with a potluck din
 ner to follow.\n\nThe Wentworths have been at Neverdun Farm since the 1970'
 s and over the years have put into use  many improvements and practices on
 the place that are rooted in permacultural principles\, including their big
  wagon wheel organic garden\, a wide variety of fruit trees and berry bushe
SUMMARY:Beach-front open-air dancing to reggae band "Hot Like Fire" - Salis
 bury Beach
DESCRIPTION:Trailblazers- A Seacoast Singles Meetup Group\n\nHey all\,\n\nJ
 oin us for a great day of beachside reggae music\, dancing and fun at Surfs
 ide 5 Beach Bar and Grill\, which overlooks Salisbury beach. It has a huge
 8\,000 ft oceanfront deck!! The reggae band\, "Hot Like Fire"\, is playing
 from 4:00pm-8:00pm on the oceanfront deck.\n \nThere will likely be a cover
  charge to see the band. And\, they will have a grill on the deck to buy fo
 od from.\n \n"Hot Like Fire has emerged as the most sought after authentic
 reggae party band on the East Coast music scene for the past nineteen years
 . They perform current\, popular reggae and soca music as well as classic f
 avorites by Bob Marley and of course that "Hot Hot Hot" song! New England P
 erformer magazine says Hot Like Fire is "energetic\, upbeat and highly addi
 ctive". People are always dancin' when Hot Like Fire is jammin'" \n(The Ban
 d's website) \nhttp://www.hotlikefire.net.\n \nHEAVY (all day) RAIN cancels
 ...... (Scattered showers doesn't)\nSo\, please be sure to check for any up
 dates before heading out.\nOn the huge outside deck\, there is a large tent
  (approx 120 ft x 40 ft) where the band plays and the dance floor is. And\,
  if it's overcast and raining\, the tent is big enough to cover everyone...
 ..  but\, you'll just need a jacket if it's a cool day.  \n\n* Even if it's
  sprinkling\, overcast and cool.... it's still A LOT of fun!!!! \n \nATTENT
 ION:\nThis is also listed as a co-event with the Social Fun Group\, the Bea
 ntown and Beyond Group\, and the Live Music  group.  \n*Please only RSVP "Y
 es" or "maybe" on one of the groups*   Thanks.\n\n\nDIRECTIONS -\n\n-From I
 -95 north or south\, take exit 58 (Rt. 110 Amesbury/Salisbury).  \n\n-Follo
 w Rt. 110 east toward Salisbury.  After 2.3 miles\, the road splits.  \n\n-
 Stay left\, following Rt. 1 North a short distance.   \n\n-Turn right onto
 1A North (Beach Rd.) and travel 2.2 mi. to beach.  \n\n-Road does a one-way
  u-turn just before hitting the beach\, but if you look slightly to the lef
 t before doing so\, you'll see a large blue building w/white trim on the le
 ft.  That's Surfside 5 Beach Club.  \n\n-Circle around a little to find par
 king.  Salisbury Beach is a little run down and there are all walks of life
  milling around\, but it's really a safe area.  \n\n-Prices range from $7.0
 0 to park for the evening at the municipal lot on the right before approach
 ing the U-turn to "free" on the side of Rt. 1A north heading toward Seabroo
 k after making your U-turn.  \n\n-The lot closest to the Beach Club is thei
 r own lot which costs $5.00 for the evening and is 100 ft. from the entranc
 e.  \n\n-Walk in the entrance of Surfside 5 Beachclub\, through the bar are
 a to the rear\, and up the stairs/ramp to the deck.\n\n-I have to work unti
 l 4:30 that day and won't arrive until 5:30\, but at least 20 people will b
 e there from other groups.  The head organizer\, Karen from Social Fun will
  have a red helium balloon tied to a table.\n\n-I'll be wearing my cell pho
 ne (603)973-6609.  So call me after 4:30 if you need to.\n\nSee you there!\
SUMMARY:Seabrook Harbor Ocean Skills/Surf Session
DESCRIPTION:NE Seacoast Paddlers\n\nThis is a free form skill session to pr
 actice in the ocean. Much of the session will likely focus on surfing skill
 s\, but it is not limited to that.  The Seabrook Harbor "bowl" offers a ver
 y safe place to learn basic kayak surf technique and boat handling skills i
 n the surf zone.  The "bowl" is shallow water and self rescue is very easy.
 \n\nSome weeks\, the group may opt to head out of the harbor into the open
 ocean for surfing on Seabrook or Hampton Beach.  We will also practice open
  water self and assisted rescues\, towing and other basic kayak skills from
  time to time\, depending on the desires of the group.\n\nHigh Tide July 14
   4:48 p.m.  This is past prime time to surf the bowl\, so likely we'll be
 out in the open ocean beaches to find surf or practice skills.\n\nIf you co
 me late\, just paddle around the corner from the put-in\, paddle out under
 the Seabrook Harbor bridge and you should be able to find us in the bowl or
  just around the corner.\n\nPut-in is at Seabrook Harbor\, on the Seabrook
 side of the bridge on Rte 1A in the large parking lot with a restroom.\n\nS
SUMMARY:The Portsmouth Book Club July Meetup - Three Cups of Tea
DESCRIPTION:The Portsmouth Book Club Meetup\n\nOur July pick is Three Cups
 of Tea by Greg Mortenson and David Oliver Relin.  \n\nHere is a brief synop
 sis from Barnes and Noble of Three Cups of Tea:\n\nOne day in 1993\, high u
 p in the world's most inhospitable mountains\, Greg Mortenson wandered lost
  and alone\, broken in body and spirit\, after a failed attempt to climb K2
 \, the world's deadliest peak. When the people of an impoverished village i
 n Pakistan's Karakoram Himalaya took him in and nursed him back to health\,
  Mortenson made an impulsive promise: He would return one day and build the
 m a school. Although he was a homeless "climbing bum" living out of his agi
 ng Buick in Berkeley\, California\, Mortenson sold what few possessions he
 had to launch one of the most remarkable humanitarian campaigns of our time
 ." "Three Cups of Tea traces Mortenson's decade-long odyssey to build schoo
 ls\, especially for girls\, throughout the region that gave birth to the Ta
 liban and sanctuary to Al Qaeda. While he wages war with the root causes of
  terrorism - poverty and ignorance - by providing both girls and boys with
 a balanced\, nonextremist education. Mortenson must survive a kidnapping\,
 fatwas issued by enraged mullahs\, death threats from Americans who conside
 r him a traitor\, and wrenching separations from his family." Today\, as th
 e director of the Central Asia Institute\, Mortenson has built fifty-five s
 chools serving Pakistan and Afghanistan's poorest communities. And as this
 real-life Indiana Jones from Montana crisscrosses the Himalaya and the Hind
 u Kush fighting to keep these schools functioning\, he provides not only ho
 pe to tens of thousands of children\, but living proof that one passionatel
 y dedicated person truly can change the world.\n\nPortsmouth\, NH  03801 -
SUMMARY:Merrymeeting River Kayaking Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Trailblazers- A Seacoast Singles Meetup Group\n\nHi Trailblazer
 s\, we will be kayaking/canoing down the Merrymeeting River\, we will end u
 p in Alton Bay in Lake Winnepesaukee\, we will be traversing a dam and we w
 ill travel under several bridges. So come out for a fun day of kayaking dow
 n a fun filled river. \n\nDirections to Merrymeeting River - New Durham\, N
 H  \nSpaulding Tpk North to Exit 15 for Route 11 North.  \nFollow Route 11
 for about 12 miles. Boat launch is on your left 1/4 mile after Ridge Rd & D
 epot Rd.  \n(30 mins from Dover) \nIt's right after Johnsons Steak and Seaf
 ood Resturant. If you see the Johnsons Resturant we will be another 1/4 mil
 e on the left.\nNote: ***We will not be meeting at Johnsons Resturant*** we
  will meet at the river.\n\n\nLength of trip - About 4 hours. \n-Please arr
 ive early\, nobody wants to wait for someone who is late.\n-If you get thei
 r early you could stop at Johnsons to get something to eat or use the bathr
 ooms.\n-We will go for Ice Cream after the event! \n-Rain postpones (but a
 little mist might be fine)  \n-Don't forget the bug spray!  \n-If you have
 an extra boat or room in a canoe\, put a note next to your RSVP or let me k
 now. \n\nDescription  \nAmong the many rivers\, ponds and swamps in souther
 n New Hampshire\, the Merrymeeting in New Durham is a standout. The river f
 lows out of Merrymeeting Lake and into Lake Winnipesaukee\, opening up into
  a marshy expanse on the west side of Route 11\, about 35 mi/45min north of
  Portsmouth. The parking lot and the easy put-in are just past the junction
  of Route 11 West and Ridge Road. (Look for the wooden snowmobile bridge on
  the left.) \n\nThe river winds and twists\, roughly paralleling Route 11.
 After a while\, you reach the Coffin Brook\, a large channel on the left th
 at feeds the Merrymeeting. Heading up Coffin Brook\, you leave behind all h
 ighway noise to discover numerous bays\, channels and coves along the edges
  of the often-broad expanse of winding river. In those quiet\, wild places
 along the Coffin (and\, for that matter\, throughout the marsh)\, all manne
 r of flora and fauna make their home: turtles (some snapping)\, muskrats\,
 beavers\, wild ducks and great blue herons that lift up and set down again\
 , often keeping just a little ahead of your boat. The floating islands of g
 rasses\, mats of water lilies and dense stands of colorful pickerel weed ha
 rbor schools of fish and all sorts of insects\, including dragonflies\, wat
 er skimmers and whirligig beetles.  \n\nNote: Please be responsible for you
 r own safety. Bring a flotation device for each participant. \n\nIf anyone
 has any questions you can call me at:603-509-2907.  \nThanks. \nPeter\n\nNe
