SUMMARY:The Dover Writers November Meetup
DESCRIPTION:The Dover Writers Meetup Group\n\nGenerally\, each member share
s a short sample (1 to 5 pages) of something she or he wrote with other mem
bers of the group. Some members like to bring multiple copies of their work
and have the other members read it silently\, others prefer to bring one c
opy and read it aloud. Some like feedback\, others don't. Samples have gene
rally been fictional prose\, ranging from science-fiction/fantasy to real l
ife coming of age stories. Members have also brought in poetry. We are welc
ome to just about any genre\, including non-fiction. At some meetings\, we
have informallly talked about how we use writing in our respective jobs\, b
ut this is not a prerequisite. Some of us are published authors\, but most
of us (including myself) are not. Most of our meetings (to this point) have
been at the Central Wave (formerly Dover Soul)\, a restaurant in downtown
Dover.\n\nLastly\, to find me more easily\, I will be wearing a Red Sox jer
 sey and a black hat.\n\nDover\, NH 03820 - USA\n\nThursday\, November 12 a

SUMMARY:Intellectual Spirituality Radio Show - Featured Guest Chris Augusti
 n
DESCRIPTION:The Seacoast Paranormal Research Group\n\nBy day he works as a
programmer analyst for a major food service company doing application devel
opment and technical support. By night\, he records and analyzes UFO sighti
ng reports\, abduction experiences\, hauntings and anything else that quali
fies as strange/unknown/weird. Chris Augustin has been an Alien/UFO/Paranor
mal Investigator for 13+ years now. Chris' site\, www.aliensthetruth.com\,
is online for one main reason\, the truth. In our community\, people who ha
 ve had UFO sightings\, abduction experiences\, paranormal encounters\, etc\
; need a place to go. They need a place to share what they have experienced
without the fear of ridicule. This is truly an alternate reality for many
people. The mainstream media rarely gives our community positive attention\
, unless it's some major event like the Roswell UFO crash anniversary\, or
when there's a mass sighting\, where hundreds or thousands of people witnes
s the event\, like the Phoenix Lights in 1997. The site focuses on some ver
y basic premises\, there is life on this planet\, which is one out of billi
ons. Therefore\, it is mathematically impossible for life not to exist on a
nother. With the vast amount of evidence collected over the years\, going b
ack to ancient times\, up to today\, from reports gathered by MUFON and oth
er organizations\; there is no way that we can be alone in the universe. Jo
in us tonight at 9 pm and call in with questions for Chris.\nto listen to t

SUMMARY:Kearsarge ( Winslow State Park)
DESCRIPTION:4 Seasons Hiking Group\n\nHIKE DESCRIPTION: A short\, steep cli
mb to spectacular views from one of southern New Hampshire's highest peaks
(2\,937'). We will hike the Winslow Trail to the summit which has excellent
360-degree with views of Mount Monadnock\, the Boston skyline\, the White
Mountains\, Lake Winnipesaukee and the mountains of NH Vermont and Maine. T
here is a fire tower at the top which is one of only sixteen active fire lo
okout towers in Mount Kearsarge is the name of a 2\,937-foot (895 m) mounta
in located in Wilmot\, New Hampshire\, and Warner\, New Hampshire\, the Uni
ted States. Two state parks are located on the mountain: Winslow State Park
and Rollins State Park. On a very clear day\, skyscrapers in the city of B
oston\, Massachusetts 80 miles (130 km) away are visible from the fire towe
r on the summit. The summit has remained bare since a 1796 forest fire.\n\n
The name of the mountain evolved from a 1652 rendering of the indigenous na
me for the mountain\, Carasarga\, which it is surmised means "notch-pointed
-mountain of pines."\n\nKearsarge is a monadnock\, and although of only mod
erate elevation\, its isolation gives it 2\,100 ft (640 m) of relative heig
ht above the low ground separating it from the higher mountains farther nor
th. That makes Kearsarge one of twelve mountains in New Hampshire with a pr
ominence over 2\,000 ft (610 m).\n\nMount Kearsarge stands within the water
shed of the Merrimack River\, which drains into the Gulf of Maine. The west
ern slopes of the mountain drain into Cascade Brook\, which flows north to
the Blackwater River\, a stream which flows around the northern and eastern
base of Kearsarge\, eventually draining into the Contoocook River\, a trib
utary of the Merrimack. The northern and eastern slopes of the mountain dra
in more directly into the Blackwater River. The southern face of Mount Kear
sarge drains into Meadow Brook\, a tributary of the Warner River\, which fl
ows southeast to the Contoocook River.\n\nKearsarge is a popular hiking des
tination. The summit is the high point along the 75-mile (120 km) Sunapee-R
agged-Kearsarge Greenway hiking trail which links 10 towns and encircles th
e Kearsarge-Lake Sunapee region of western New Hampshire. The quickest rout
e to the top is from the Rollins State Park picnic area on the mountain's s
outh ridge\, accessible via Kearsarge Mountain Road from the town of Warner
. Access on the mountain's western side is from the picnic area of Winslow
State Park via the Winslow Trail (1.1 mi) or the Barlow Trail (1.6 mi.)\, b
uilt in 1997 by Trailwrights\, a volunteer trail group\, for the SRK Greenw
ay. The full Greenway section hike on Mt. Kearsarge covers 5.8 miles (9.3 k
 m) from Winslow picnic area via the Barlow Trail to the summit and via the
Rollins and Lincoln trails southwesterly to Kearsarge Valley Road in North
Sutton.\n\nThe Winslow Trail and the state park on the Wilmot side are name
d after Captain John Winslow\, the commander of the USS Kearsarge\, which i
n June 1864 sank the CSS Alabama in the English Channel in a famous Civil W
ar sea battle. We will then return to the parking lot via the Barlow Trail.

SUMMARY:November Book Club - In the Woods
DESCRIPTION:Portland Out and About Group\n\nIn the Woods by Tana French\n\n
 http://www.borders.com/ProductImages/products/00/57/63/a/57634147_a.jpg\n\n
Here is a brief synopsis of the book:\n\nA gorgeously written novel that ma
rks the debut of an astonishing new voice in psychological suspense. As dus
k approaches a small Dublin suburb in the summer of 1984\, mothers begin to
call their children home. But on this warm evening\, three children do not
return from the dark and silent woods. When the police arrive\, they find
only one of the children gripping a tree trunk in terror\, wearing blood-fi
lled sneakers\, and unable to recall a single detail of the previous hours.
Twenty years later\, the found boy\, Rob Ryan\, is a detective on the Dubl
in Murder Squad and keeps his past a secret. But when a twelve-year-old gir
l is found murdered in the same woods\, he and Detective Cassie Maddox-his
partner and closest friend-find themselves investigating a case chillingly
similar to the previous unsolved mystery. Now\, with only snippets of long-
buried memories to guide him\, Ryan has the chance to uncover both the myst
ery of the case before him and that of his own shadowy past. Richly atmosph
eric\, stunning in its complexity\, and utterly convincing and surprising t
o the end\, In the Woods is sure to enthrall fans of Mystic River and The L
 ovely Bones.\n\nSouth Portland\, ME 04106 - USA\n\nWednesday\, November 18

SUMMARY:Seacoast Chick Lit November Meetup - Bitter is the New Black
DESCRIPTION:Seacoast Chick Lit Club\n\nOur November Seacoast Chick Lit meet
up is going to be Bitter is the New Black by Jen Lancaster.\n\nHere is a br
ief synopsis of Bitter is the New Black from Barnes and Noble.com\n\n\n\nJe
n Lancaster was living the sweet life-until real life kicked her to the cur
 b. \n\nShe had the perfect man\, the perfect job-hell\, she had the perfect
life-and there was no reason to think it wouldn't last. Or maybe there was
\, but Jen Lancaster was too busy being manicured\, pedicured\, highlighted
\, and generally adored to notice. \n\nThis is the smart-mouthed\, soul-sea
rching story of a woman trying to figure out what happens next when she's g
one from six figures to unemployment checks and she stops to reconsider som
e of the less-than-rosy attitudes and values she thought she'd never have t
o answer for when times were good. \n\nFilled with caustic wit and unusual
insight\, it's a rollicking read as speedy and unpredictable as the traject
 ory of a burst balloon.\n\nPortsmouth\, NH 03801 - USA\n\nWednesday\, Nove

\n\nIf you listen to The River\, you will love this band! Catch Adam Ezra a
nd friends on their way up!\n\nMusic begins @ 7:30 pm.\nNo cover charge. A
ll Ages welcome.\n\nPress Reviews:\nFollowing in the footsteps of the Dave
Matthews Band and John Mayer\, Boston-born Adam Ezra crafts a small gem of
an acoustic rock album focused on his hook-rich songwriting and funky\, fol
k-rocking arrangements. \n\nEzra can write an indelible song from basic fol
k and classic-rock material\; check out "Lonely Mile\,'' and then just try
to get the melody out of your head. His highly personal lyrics show loads o
 f promise.\n- Boston Herald\n\nAdam Ezra's music has been featured on MTV's
"The Real World" (one of my guilty pleasures) and on "Driven." So why have
n't you heard of him and his new band? Well my friends I'd have to say you
are looking for new music in all the wrong places. The Adam Ezra band is su
per fine acoustic rock that proves why Boston rocks! This CD is a mixture o
f both live and studio performances so you get the best of both worlds and
they slip and slide through the world of acoustic ballads "California\," "T
ouchdown\," and "Caveman" were my personal favorites.\n-Samantha\, Soundche

SUMMARY:Mt Cube
DESCRIPTION:4 Seasons Hiking Group\n\nMount Cube (~2\,900')\, with open led
ges on its north and south peaks\, commands views both back down the valley
towards Hanover and ahead to Mount Moosilauke and the White Mountains beyo
nd. On warm days\, the summit ledges of Mount Cube are excellent lunch spot
 s. \nThe hike up Cube is pretty steep and rocky\, gaining 2\,000 feet of el
evation over 3 miles\, with some challenging scrambles over rocks and roots
. There is a north summit with very fine views and ledges\nIf you are look
ing for a little more mileage and vertical without overdoing it\, Mount Cub
e is the perfect choice. With under 3000 feet of elevation\, Mount Cube may
have less cachet than its larger neighbors\, Smarts and Moosilauke\, but i
t is still a terrific hike\, especially with a dog. It offers solitude\, ab
undant water (over a dozen stream crossings)\, and a great view from the to
 p. \n\nledges on its north and south peaks\, commands views both back down
the valley towards Hanover and ahead to Mount Moosilauke and the White Moun
tains beyond. This is the northern end of the long ridge stretching north f
rom South Moose Mountain that forms the eastern edge of the Connecticut Riv
er valley. The pinkish-gray summit rocks are quartzite\, the same hard ridg
e-forming rock that runs in a band from Lebanon\, over Moose\, up Lambert R
idge\, and on to Cube. On warm days\, the summit ledges of Mount Cube are e
xcellent lunch spots. Be sure to sample the wild blueberries in late summer
.\n\nHow To Get There: \nTake Route 10 north out of Hanover\, through Lyme\
, and into Orford. Just before reaching the green in Orford\, turn right on
to Route 25A East. Pass through Orfordville in 2.5 miles and continue up th
e northern shoulder of Mount Cube\, whose summit ledges are visible above t
he trees. After 8.3 miles\, at the height-of-land\, pass Mount Cube Farm an
d former governor Mel Thompson’s famous pancake house. Continue on Route 25
A and descend steeply to Upper Baker Pond. Just before crossing a steel hig
hway bridge\, 10.2 miles from Orford\, the AT south leaves from the right h
and side of the road. Park in the parking lot across the bridge.\n\nTrip De
scription\nAfter leaving the highway (0.0 miles)\, the trail crosses a swam
py area\, passes through an abandoned homestead\, and begins rising paralle
 l to a brook.\n\nAt 0.4 miles\, the trail perpendicularly crosses a gravel
road and continues uphill through hardwood forest.\n\nAt 1.6 miles\, after
cresting a small rise\, the trail winds down to cross Brackett Brook. The t
rail rises straight on the far side of the brook and then begins a switchba
cked ascent of the mountain’s shoulder.\n\nAt 2.8 miles\, the trail crests
the shoulder and climbs gently towards the summit ridge. This section of tr
ail\, completed in the fall of 1987\, was cut extra wide to accommodate bac
 kcountry skiing.\n\nAt 3.1 miles\, arrive at a T-junction between the north
and south summits. To the right\, the blue-blazed side trail leads in 0.2
miles to the north summit\, with its fine view of Moosilauke. To the left\,
the AT continues south.\n\nAt 3.3 miles\, reach the south summit of Mount
Cube. Smarts and Ascutney dominate a view that covers much of the Upper Val
ley of the Connecticut.\n\nThose who have arranged transportation and wish
a longer hike might consider continuing on to Smarts. The AT descends over
quartzite ledges off the south side of Cube\, passes six-sided Hexacuba She
lter in the valley near Eastman Ledges\, and rises along the gentle norther
n ridge of Smarts to its summit\, 7 miles away.\n\nFollow the same trail yo
u came up to return to your car.\n\n \n\n\n\nMount Cube \nOrford\, NH \n6.6
  miles (~ 4.5 hours) \n~2000' elevation gain\; ~600'/mile \nMeet at the tra
ilhead parking lot at 10:00 am\n\nHow To Get There: \n93N to exit 26-3A/25\
 ; 3A to 25 to 25A. \nJust after crossing a steel highway bridge\, 10.2 mile
s before Orford\, the AT south leaves from the left hand side of the road.
Park in the parking lot across the bridge. The lot is very small so you wil
l most likely have to park on the side of the road. \n\nAs a condition of a

SUMMARY:Monadnock ( Judi Judi Judi Birthday ) Judi Loves whoopie pies
DESCRIPTION:4 Seasons Hiking Group\n\nHello Everyone \,\n Nov 22nd is Jud
i Judi Judi birthday ! I want to run a whoopie pie contest with Judi being
the judge . I will be offering a Prize to the person who brings Judi the b
est tasting whoopie pie ..\n\n From the Park headquarters\, take the
Parker Trail to the Cliff Walk Trail\, about 1 mile. Follow Cliff Walk up
to Bald Rock\, maybe another mile. From Bald rock\, take the Smith Connecti
ng Trail across the White Cross and then the White Dot Trails to the Red Sp
ot Trail\, about three-quarters a mile. Turn left and go about two hundred
yards up to the Pumpelly Trail\, turning left again to the summit\, about 7
70 yards. The typical descent would be down the White Dot to the White Cros
s\, rejoining the White Dot and down to Park Headquarters—or you could reve
rse your original route\, but it's quite long. Total distance is about 3 1/
2 miles\, with an average 11% grade\, though there are a few steeper sectio
ns. Starting at the Old Toll Road parking area would reduce the length by a
bout half a mile\, without significantly increasing the difficulty. Just re
member to take one of the routes down that returns to that area!\n\nIt is a
pprovimately 4.3 miles round trip with lots of rock scramblings 5 to 6 hour
hike with Judi eating all the whoopies included...\n\n\nAbout Mount Monadn
ock\n\n\nMonadnock at an elevation of 3165 feet is one of the outstanding p
eaks of the northeast. It is an isolated mountain which offers far reachin
g views from the Boston skyline to Mt. Greylock\, MA up the Green Mountains
as far as Mount Killington\, VT and as far as Mount Washington\, NH 104 ai
r miles away. Monadnock was bared by fires over 200 years ago. The upper
300 to 400 feet of the mountain is exposed bare rock with 5 spruce covered
ridges that emanate outward from the mountain with open crags and exposed l
edges offering many scenic and spectacular views.\n\nMount Monadnock became
a popular hiking destination in the 19th century. Hotels provided accommo
dations\, one was a converted farmhouse\; the Ark\, on the southeastern sid
e of the mountain\, now is a bible conference. The other was the Half-way
House in the Amphitheater on the southern side of the mountain burned in th
e 50's and now is an empty site. There was Fassetts Mountain House as well
pre-dating the Halfway House. Trails fanned out to all the scenic spots a
ll over Mt Monadnock. From the southeastern side the primary trails evolve
d from the Mead Brook Trail and Pasture Trail to the now current main trail
s White Dot and White Cross trails.\n\nWith the hotels gone and the cliente
le changing from regulars spending a summer vacation to throngs of flat lan
ders and group hikes\, a lot of the trails have been abandoned by the park
but interesting hiking on the mountain can still be explored and enjoyed.
The primary tracts of land on Mount Monadnock have been granted for public
pleasure. Monadnock is known as one of the most hiked mountains in the wor
ld\, but there is an opportunity to explore trails away from the crowds. M
onadnock Mountain is a hiking enthusiast paradise to explore.\n\n\n\nThere
is a day use fee: $4 per person\, $2 for children aged 6-12\, children 5 an
d under are free and New Hampshire residents over 65 are also free.\nEvery
Wednesday is half price for New Hampshire residents.\nA season pass is avai
lable for $60.\nDirections to Monadnock State Park\n\n\nhttp://photos2.meet

SUMMARY:Mount Major to Straight back (Turkey Day )
DESCRIPTION:4 Seasons Hiking Group\n\nMount Major near West Alton is a rock
y summit with extensive views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the Belknap Range\,
and even the White Mountains in clear weather. It's a favorite hike of chi
ldrens' camps\, so you can expect heavy traffic even on weekdays in the sum
mer. \n\nWe will go up the blue trail and to the top and then over to Strai
ghback Mountain and back via at the Yellow trail.. \nDistance 5 miles total
..Time 4 hours \nElevation gain: About 1100 feet \n\nTrailhead: Large par
king lot S side of NH Route 11 about 2.2 miles E of Route 11-A\, elevation
 about 650 feet \n43.5193°N\, 71.2738°W (WGS84) \nFrom I-95 in Portsmouth\,
follow the Spaulding Turnpike/ NH Route 16 N about 21 miles to exit 15\, th
en follow NH Route 11 about 20.6 miles W to parking lot on L. \n\n\nhttp://
 photos4.meetupstatic.com/photos/event/4/0/4/highres_11041028.jpeg\n\n\nTher
e is an extensive trail network in the Belknap Range\; this article will de
scribe the three most popular routes up Mount Major: \n\nMain Trail: Take t
he obvious woods road which leaves the R side of the parking lot as you fac
e the mountain. There are blue blazes but you won't need them to follow the
road. Almost within sight of the parking lot\, the road forks\; either for
k is OK but make sure everyone in your party goes the same way if you don't
want to waste much of the day looking for them. After the two rejoin\, the
blue blazes and the Main Trail turn left at another junction about .8 mile
s from the parking lot. The road becomes a footpath\, often with several br
anches which usually rejoin. There are a number of rock slabs to ascend\, a
nd because this trail is on the N side and gets a lot of foot traffic\, it
may be the iciest route up in cold weather. The trail climbs over a small k
noll then steeply up the rocks to the summit. Distance from parking lot: 1.
8 miles. \nOn the return\, look for blue blazes dropping off to the NE. \nB
rook Trail: Follow the Main Trail for .8 miles\, then go straight following
yellow blazes where the Main Trail turns L. After a dip\, the trail follow
s an old road up along the brook - in wet weather some of the trail seems l
ike a brook\, and crossings may be difficult at times of high water. At the
col between Straightback and Mt. Major\, turn L on the blue-blazed trail t
o reach the summit. A route up from the S joins from the R shortly beyond.
Distance from parking lot: 2.4 miles. \nOn the return\, take the trail head
ing W toward Mt. Belknap\, then go R at the col. Do not take the trail to S
traightback Mtn.\, which does not lead "straight back" to the parking lot.
\nBoulder Loop: Take the faint snowmobile trail which leaves the L side of
the parking lot as you face the mountain. Cross two small bridges within si
ght of the parking lot\, then turn R up the bank next to a boulder and cont
inue up an old woods road which is growing in. At .4 miles from the parking
lot\, turn R at a fork and switchback uphill. Then the road circles downhi
ll to the L and finally becomes a trail. The trail ascends through a boulde
r field and comes out on ledges which it follows NW to the summit. Distance
from parking lot: 1.8 miles. \n\n\nhttp://photos2.meetupstatic.com/photos/
event/4/0/3/highres_11041027.jpeg\n\nOn the return\, follow the orange blaz
es along the ledges to the SE. \nA phantom trailbuilder is at work in the B
elknap Range. One day a friend of mine thought he saw a guy come out of the
woods with brush clippers and just as quickly go back\; an investigation s
howed a freshly-cut trail heading down. Go someplace where you were just la
st month and you may find a map taped to a tree showing a new trail to a po
int of interest you didn't know about. In fact\, there are at least four mo
re trails from this parking lot to the summit of Mt. Major that I'll leave
you to discover for yourself - by the time you get there\, there may be mor
